I asked for Chicken Tikka Masala, was told I had to have chips with it, as they had no Rice. My nephew had Mixed Grill, was the mankiest Piece of Chicken included. I’m Coeliac and enquired before booking about their ability to produce a Gluten Free meal and was told no problem. For breakfast all they did was exclude the Gluten containing items. I got two pieces of burnt Gluten Free bread, no butter. There was no cutlery, and I hunted out some for my fellow guests. Our table wasn’t cleared, not even when a second coffee arrived. Was just plopped down among the used items. And an hour or so later I passed the window and the table still wasn’t cleared. We were asked on booking-in what time we would like breakfast. We said 8am. Second morning we couldn’t gain access to the main building (we had been housed in what they called the ‘Annexe’) A guest staying in the main building let us in, but no sign of staff, everywhere was locked. She had booked 8.30. I tried to contact Marstons without success, apparently they don’t work weekends. Eventually a young lady arrived to start work and dismissed our complaints with the statement “we were busy last night, so we struggled to open on time” My breakfast this morning gained a Gluten containing sausage, as did Sunday’s, I removed the sausage and hoped no cross contamination had occurred. The whole place is dingy, run-down and in need of full restoration. Outside areas, including car park, dirty and rubbish strewn. Smoking takes place just outside main door, where you have to fight your way through the crowd of smokers, this included the staff as well. An old fire bucket was provided for butts, this hadn’t been emptied in a long time, was full and spilling onto the pavement. I remember this Hotel at its best, is the complete opposite now.
