"We stayed in Mr. Jose homestay for 2 days. Got a very warm welcome and felt very homely. Mr.Jose is a gem of a person. He made sure that our stay is comfortable. Even his staff were very humble and helpful. We even went on his houseboat which was neat and clean and very well maintained like his homestays and the country Boat ride within the small canals where we could see the daily life of the locals. Food was amazing giving us an experience of Kerala cuisine. Mr. Jose is very helpful for any enquiries or query it will be answered within minutes & also will make sure to make any last minute adjustments whatever is possible 😊 Thank you so much Mr. Jose for making our Alleppey trip memorable. "I came to Ashtamaya while recovering from an ACL injury, needing a peaceful and affordable place. The owner offered me a small room at ₹4,000 per 7 days. Later, over the phone, he said I could stay long-term for ₹12,000/month and pay in smaller parts — so I understood the next ₹4,000 payment was for 10 days. But soon, I realized the services were not provided — the room was never cleaned. Worse, the cleaning lady came in and started asking invasive questions like “Why are you here?” and “When are you leaving?” After that, she stopped cleaning at all. I began to feel uncomfortable and unsafe.During almost 1 month stay she only came to clean 3 times!!!! Not even toilet paper was provided! I had to always go and ask at the reception! I decided to leave early, paid as agreed, and moved out peacefully. But after I left, I received strange messages from others, claiming the police were looking for me and demanding my passport and visa photo over WhatsApp — which is completely inappropriate. I felt harassed and disturbed and had to contact my embassy and begin an official complaint to protect myself. I do not recommend this place, especially to solo women or anyone in a vulnerable situation. What seems calm at first can become deeply unsettling."

"This is a really fine homestay hotel. It’s very new and well-designed. There’s a small pool on the roof that offers a great view of the beach while you cool off. There’s an elevator for those of us who can’t handle stairs as well as we once could. The owner and staff are super friendly. Complimentary breakfast was eaten with other guests and usually the owner. A very family-like atmosphere."

"The place in itself was neat and clean. It was easily accessible. Rooms were big, but it was old and in need of a revamp. Washrooms also neat but needs renovation. Room service was bad. They only served buffet for dinner which was overrated. Had very few items which were below average."

"The hotel is a huge property. It looks more of heritage property. Since it is huge cleanliness is an concern. Staff is very good and very cooperative. If they could increase number of staff, it will be more helpful in maintaining the property. Food for vegetarian is not up to the mark, but non-veg might be good. Beach is right across the road and hardly takes couple of minutes to reach. Since the property is big, i can recommend for big group, but if you’re looking for clean and good food, please avoid."
