The ancient historic and cultural block of Qingming Bridge is located in Wuxi City, Jiangsu Province. It is recorded that more than 3,200 years ago, Taibo excavated the oldest canal in China, Bodu Port, and later Wu Wangfuchai excavated the ancient canal in Wuxi. Bodu Port and Wuxi Ancient Canal are connected with the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal and become an important part of the North-South waterway of China. The historic and cultural blocks of Mingqiao in Qing Dynasty were built according to the river and marketed because of the water. The blocks took shape in the Song Dynasty with post houses, and flourished in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. The two historical and cultural waterways of the ancient canal and Bodu Port meet in the blocks, forming the unique natural attributes and humanistic customs of the blocks. Up to now, the double chessboard urban pattern with parallel roads and rivers has been retained. Small bridges, flowing water and homes fully demonstrate the characteristics of the water city in the south of the Yangtze River with deep ancient lanes. Because of the good protection, the original ecological style and the inherited habits and customs of the neighbourhood are still retained.
