Alexander, the second largest city in Egypt, was founded by Alexander the Great more than 2,000 years ago. Alexander is more open than any other part of Egypt. There are Pompeii pillars, the world's largest library, one of the seven wonders of the world, the Alexander Lighthouse (which collapsed in the earthquake of the 14th century and is now situated on original stones to build the Castle of Gaibei), the Summer Palace and other historic sites, which are worth visiting.
