We had a family Christmas gathering at this pub, and I must say it was the worst Christmas dinner I have ever had. Firstly it was in a hall, which was definitely overcrowded Food was cold, only veg was sprouts and carrots they were tasteless Yorkshire puddings were uneatable stuffing rock hard And as for the roasts they were obviously brought in frozen from a cheap shop no crispiness at all (fake Spuds) yuck Parsnips had no colour. No condiments on table Food was served at the entrance to toilets so the door was open which made it extremely cold waiting in a queue for the carvery Talking about queues it was a nightmare there was no system at all and it took an age to be served, I felt sorry for the guy that was dishing up on his own Starters were tasteless had to ask for some prawn cocktail sauce, bread was dry. The only nice thing were the staff, I felt sorry for them taking on all the complaints Please do not waste your money on a family Christmas here Such a shame as we’d spent three hours travelling to the venue to be with my daughter and family Our starters crockery was not cleared it was still on the table after desert

Just spent a long weekend there. First impression not good. No hotel staff, unable to find reception, scruffy decor, broken furniture. Eventually got keys and was informed "we don't do breakfast". What a nice surprise! They don't service the rooms either. We quickly ran out of tea/ milk etc and had to go down to the A303 junction to buy some. And after 3 days we had a large unemptied rubbish bin. The windows in our room were single glazed and did not close properly. The traffic noise from 5am onward was not good. On the Sunday night we went down to the bar for a few drinks. There was no bitter, no ice and no lemon. At 7 pm, the young girl serving drinks closed the bar, threw us out and locked up! I am not sure yet how much all this cost us as we were given the wrong receipt upon leaving (a stay for someone called Valerie Shute who I do not know). On the plus side, the pub grub was okay, and our bed was very good Would we say again - definitely not

Sam It was okay accept having no hot water and the shower was broken the bathroom was dirty and full of mould and cobb webbs not good when you have a 7 month old baby will not be staying again

Went for a family meal. Amazing place, so friendly and made is all feel so welcome. Food was great, we pre ordered and it was nice touch that they referred to us by name when handing us out plates of food. Lovely atmosphere and all round perfect place for a family meal out.

Nice place to stay. Nice place to stay - very convenient for events at Sparkford Hall as its walkable in 10 minutes - comfy family room which was spacious and had the essentials with a nice clean bathroom. Would stay again in the future as it was in quite a nice location.

Came here for dinner as we were staying nearby. Incredibly quiet for a Saturday but we understand that it had been very busy and that there was a party nearby. A lovely friendly lady met us and looked after us all evening (sorry I missed your name). We were made to feel so welcome. Our starters were lovely as were our mains. The only reason for the 4/5 is that dinner went cold quickly as it was served on very cold plates. Such a shame but easily resolved. We had a lovely bottle of wine too. All worked out to be very good value and we would absolutely go again. Thank you
