The surroundings are fertile croplands, groves, farmhouses and manors, kilometres of verdant Hirsjärvi shoreline. In places the lake is a kilometre wide, in others it tapers into a river. Water quality is examined and water has always been suitable for swimming. In the center of Somero there is eg. bowling hall, swimming Hall, riding stable, Esakallio dance hall and 3 restaurants. Ämyri dance hall 4 km, Somerniemi market square during summer Saturdays 3 km, Hiidenlinna about 10 km (where also outdoor climbing park Sisumetsän seikkailupuisto).
