RIU Cabo Verde October 2024 Staff - Excellent. EVERY member of staff was friendly, helpful, happy, welcoming, always well turned out, totally customer orientated and great at their job Restaurants - Excellent. The food was varied, well signed and great for us vegetarians. The serverys and dining areas where clean, tidy and spacious. The staff in both areas were attentive very task focussed. Accommodation - Good. The room was tired, needing attention in the décor, the shower and the mini-bar. The shower came off the wall, first time we used it, was quickly repaired, but leaked at the lower joint and the sealant was mouldy. The minibar had no optics, which surprised the chap who brought us a fresh bottle of gin (we had to go to the bar, then reception for a bottle to be ordered.) The “maid service” was excellent. As with all the staff, they did a brilliant job and everyday it was a delight to see a new creation, made from the bed throw. Hotel - Very good. Everywhere was spotless, tidy and in a good state of repair. The chairs in the reception area were not too comfortable, low backs and long seats. It was good to have outdoor, segregated areas for smokers and non-smokers, albeit a bit too close together for us non-smokers. Disappointing that neither reception or the TUI App could give us a postal address for the hotel. I left a watch charger in UK and wanted it posted out, but was told that the hotel did not have an in-use address! Poolside - Good, but overcrowded. The lounger cushions are well worn. Most days, it was difficult, if not impossible, to find a lounger, there were too many reserved with towels and unused for most, if not all, of the day. We understand that the staff did begin to remove the early morning towels, but only hotel ones, personal towels/items were not removed. Obviously, leaving a lounger for lunch, it is acceptable to reserve, but there are many, simple systems that could be utilised to ensure loungers are not reserved for excessively long periods. Segregated areas for smokers and non-smokers would be most welcome for many guests, this being a common area of complaint from folks we spoke to. Sadly, the staff were kept unnecessarily busy cleaning up after guests, who chose to leave glasses at the edge of the pool and wherever they finished their drinks or even plates of food. On behalf of these guests, we apologise. However, the staff were always on top of this, for which we are very thankful. Beach – Great. Plenty of loungers, shade, attentive life guards, excellent bar service and the usual attention to tidiness. How many glasses can one guy collect, stack and return to the bar? It looked like a giant elephant tusk, must have been over a hundred. Entertainment - Great and disappointing. The staff were brilliant. Daytime, animated, busy, encouraging, so happy with a fantastic mix of activities. Evening, once again the staff were exceptional, but the boom, boom, boom and sameness was
