Historic gold mining town Julian is about 15-20 min away, where you can sample Julian’s famous apple pie and ride down Main street in a horse-drawn carriage. Sunrises and sunsets are included.***Other things to note*** *The elevation of our location is almost 1600 feet higher than Julian town, therefore, the weather in the summer is about 5-10 degrees cooler and in winter snow fall is much heavier and longer lasting. *Friendly dogs on the property *Dogs are allowed with prior approval. One time pet fee per dog applies ($50). If you have 3 or more dogs, please contact me first. You agree not to leave your dog (s) unattended inside (crate ok) or outside the property. The King size bed allows the guests to view the lake scene while they are in the bed. The French balcony doors have "invisible" screens that close so that mountain breezes flow through the room. The hiking views are breath-taking. You will be able to overlook the Anza Borrego desert, see south into Mexico, North to San Jacinto near Palm Springs, West to the Ocean, ... or you can see all at once from a high vantage point. Deer and Wild Turkeys are routinely seen on and about the property and along the meadows and mountain sides. You will most likely see these animals up close as you relax on the decks. In addition, there are bobcat, marmots, raccoons, and foxes. There are mountain lions that live in these mountains because they feed on the deer herds. For this reason, It is best to be practical when hiking and do not travel alone and do not permit children to wander by themselves on the mountain trails. The Cuyamacas are an area of incredible beauty but it is a wilderness that is home to various animals. There are birds of every kind that surround you including, Hawks and various raptors, Woodpeckers, Jays, Canadian Geese, Loons to name a few. Bird feeders are installed for close up viewing. These feeders are on telescopic poles so that our guests can view nature at eye level. There are also a pair of Bald Eagles that live in the trees near the lake. It is a special treat to see and hear the Bald Eagles chirping while they soar over the lake.The back country night sky is something that must be seen any time of the year but especially during the meteor showers. Often times, we bring out the Celestron telescope for that.For more leisurely pursuits, you can go to the old gold-mining town of Julian, about 9 miles up the road. Once there, you can peruse quaint shops, visit the winery, go on gold mine tours, stop by the soda fountain, or indulge in fine or casual dining. Of course, Julian is best known for home-made Apple Pie and you have your choice of several tasty pie making bakeries. But we know where the absolute best one is and we gladly share the location with our guests. Built in the 1970s, the A-Frame sits in the center of Pinecrest Retreat a vintage trailer park established in 1961. Pinecrest Retreat is located on 80 acres and is home to 140 trailers, a hiking trail, and a junior Olympic size pool opened seasonally (Memorial Day weekend till the end of September). Owners of these trailers cannot live on site but have access to their trailers as a weekend getaway spot. Pinecrest Retreat is about four miles from town and four miles from Lake Cuyamaca.The A-Frame features a 360-square foot cathedral ceilinged open space with a sitting and dining area. A kitchen with refrigerator/freezer, gas stove & oven, sink, coffee maker, plates & utensils and most of the basics. The A-Frame has a bedroom downstairs with a queen size bed (with twin size trundle in the closet), a full bath, and an open loft upstairs with a king size bed and balcony. Sleeping 8 comfortably (and 1 more on the couch if you want!). The kitchen is large and great for cooking. This cabin is perfect for families or groups of friends. Enjoy the convenience of 3 bathrooms (2 full and one with a dry sauna, shower, and a large bathtub). Stay connected with WiFi, watch tv, stay comfortable with heating and AC, and take care of laundry with a washing machine. Iron out any wrinkles before heading out to explore the fabulous surroundings which include a charming downtown area and local hiking trails. This is such a special place. Relax on the porch with your morning coffee, lounge or nap in the porch-swing-bed, take nice walks on the winding roads, and gaze out at the stars at night (very little light pollution!). A wrap-around deck includes a roomy balcony deck with tables and chairs which is a great place to watch sunsets through the trees. Two floor to ceiling fireplaces with Heatilators (fans that blow the hot air in) help you keep warm on cold nights. The downstairs fireplace has been converted to an electric fireplace. This is a family-friendly, dog-friendly cabin. It’s perfect for people who want to chill and not worry if someone puts their feet up on the coffee table. The house is fully prepared for people traveling as a family or a group, and with dogs. The kitchen is stocked with all the cooking essentials except the actual food although there is a good amount of condiments in the fridge and dry food in the pantry . Some spices are stocked in the cabinets. Dog bowls, treats, and other supplies in pantry. There is a dedicated kids' room with age-appropriate toys, a train table, farmers market stand with play food, kid-sized table and chairs, dollhouse, and a TV monitor with Apple TV and DVD player. I’m in the process of replacing the floors, the flooring at the stair landing is uneven bc I have the flooring under the carpet. Just be aware it’s uneven. The back bonus room with the 2 Queen beds and kitchenette will only be open for parties of 8 or more THE AREAThis place IS truly a beautiful and magical spot where wildlife is attracted to our front door. That said, I do want to point out that THIS IS AN OLDER CABIN IN THE WOODS AND BUILT INTO A HILL AND UNDER A CANOPY OF TREES . While that makes being upstairs akin to being in a giant tree house, it also means that you get what comes with trees and the mountains—leaves on the decks, ants, spiders, birds, squirrels, field mice, raccoons, spider webs, and an interesting variety of other bugs and other wildlife. We spray the outside perimeter and every window for bugs regularly but…. It’s a cabin in the woods. Yes it’s normal for spider webs to form on the window sills hours after they are removed. We are under a gazillion trees. That’s what happens. Leaves, acorns, tassels, etc will litter the deck when wind blows. We don’t control nature. Let me say this again, there will be spider webs outside under the balcony and along the eaves, and maybe the window sills inside. The spiders eat the bugs. We like spiders. If you are expecting the palatial second home mansions like in Lake Arrowhead, or Big Bear, this isn’t it. While there are many things I have improved and many more I would like to change and improve, I do it as I can afford. If you are super picky then just don't book my place. BRING- extra TP (that is septic safe), paper towels, Aim and Flame or some lighter for firepit and fire place, Tupperware, foil, ziplock bags, plastic wrap, bottled water if you don’t want to use our Britta, coffee, toothbrush/toothpaste, lotion (it’s really dry up there), food, and bug spray in spring and summer. I have some To-Go type containers that can be used to store and take your food but I never know what is there. CABIN MANUAL: We have a cabin manual for guests at the cabin in a binder as well as downstairs by the front door. Please read our disclosures for more infoCHECK OUT PROCEDURES- Please leave the beds you used UNMADE SO WE KNOW TO CLEAN THOSE and leave any other linens ON THE BEDS NOT THE FLOOR. Towels should be placed on floor in front of washer/dryer. Kitchen should be left relatively clean- Please load the dishwasher, throw a dishwasher pod in, and turn it on. If you leave the kitchen like the aftermath of an Iron Chef competition you will be charged $25/hour more for cleaning. If I’m stating it here it’s because someone did it. Kids’ room should be picked up not left a complete disaster. All garbage should be bagged in large white trash bags located in the kitchen. Please place inside the trash cans outside (they are sometimes up by the street). Recycling goes loose in blue bin. TRASH IS PICKED UP EVERY MONDAY BETWEEN 6-7AM.PLEASE WHEEL UP TRASH EVERY SUNDAY unless you check out Saturday then wheel it up Saturday. If this is unclear MESSAGE US. Leaving me 20 yard trash bags full of trash will result in a $50 charge as we will have to pay to take to a dump.
