Conversely, Vacation Rental Permits can be issued to any person or corporation regardless of residency; even to those residing in other countries, and these entities often operate dozens of vacation rental units. So you can rest assured when you book that once in a lifetime vacation, that this home will still be here available and waiting for your arrival. Also, because all B&B's are owned and operated by local residents, you will know that your rental fee will remain here in our Maui economy, which is so important for those struggling since the horrific fire disaster and consequential downturn to the number of visitors to Maui. The house is located off the street on half an acre with mature palm trees and tropical landscape, the property is very private. Centrally located between Maui's most popular destinations. Designed to take advantage of ocean, pool, and courtyard views without compromising privacy. Once on the property you are enveloped by the lush tropical landscape, only to be seen by others if you choose to be. Built to the highest standards with architectural design and detail seldom seen. Durable finishes. Relaxing and welcoming atmosphere. LocationWe're located roughly 1/4 mile from the ocean. According to Google Maps its a 13 minute walk to Kalepolepo Beach Park to the South (which also has the Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary) and 14 minutes from Mai Poina Beach Park to the North. From there you can walk the beach for miles all the way to Maalaea. The property location is ideal for travel, being near Piilani Hwy and only a few minutes from the intersection of Highways that lead North, South, and East. We're also only 18 minutes from the airport.Driving upAs you enter the property you cant miss the large fountain in the center of the circular driveway. Beautiful by day it becomes stunning when lit at night. There are a total of 6 parking spaces, 3 on either side of the front entry.The houseThe entry is dramatic. 27' in height, with layered architectural details and lighting systems. This is where people usually say "This place is a palace!" We've heard it so much that we adopted the name for our short term rental permit.All cabinetry, built-in hutches, window seats, and even the beds and most dressers are custom hand made using African Mahogany solid wood and plywood. The floors, shower walls and pool area are covered with over 7000 square feet of natural stone imported from Turkey. The tall doors and windows are all trimmed with custom layered molding details. Every ceiling has architectural detail and integrated lighting systems. The house is truly one of a kind! But best of all... although everything is luxurious, its also very durable so you don't have to walk on egg shells. Just relax and have fun!The upstairs features an 82" Qled built-in TV with custom sound system (inside), and a 70" TV in a motorized lift cabinet (outside on the lanai). Downstairs features a 75" TV outside, and full movie theater inside. The theater has 8 reclining leather seats, 2 level theater seating, 126" screen that lowers and retracts into the ceiling automatically, 7.2 Dolby digital sound; 7 surround sound speakers + 2 subwoofers. The picture and sound are truly remarkable.The kitchen is designed by a cook, for a cook. It features a large island with seating for 4 so that the cook never has to feel left out when preparing a meal. The TV is also located so it can be clearly seen while cooking. Other features of the kitchen include a butler's pantry which stores the things you don't want to see when you are entertaining, but makes them easily accessible when needed. Its also an ideal area for slow cook "crock pot" meals. The upper cabinets in the kitchen have 1 way glass so that guests cant see what is inside, but with the flick of a switch, the interior of the cabinets are illuminated, making everything visible without having to open the doors to find things you need - a very helpful feature when cooking in an unfamiliar kitchen.I'm sure you can see from the photos that the house is beautiful, but what isn't apparent are the details that make the home so comfortable. Completed just 2 years ago it has the latest in plumbing, electrical and environmental systems. For instance, the hot water recirculates through the house so you never have to wait for hot water. The showers have larger than standard delivery systems so there is LOTS of water and shower heads of all types. There are 2 powerful ducted AC systems (not wall or window units) that maintain a cool interior regardless of how hot it may be outside. There are many large windows and glass sliding door systems that fill the house with light and provide tropical views, coupled with large roof overhangs that keep out direct sunlight. Where the sun may enter the windows, the windows are treated with a low-e coating that reflects the suns "heat" rays that would other wise heat up the interior. All glass units are double pane to provide heat and sound insulation. Every bedroom is equipped with electric privacy shades that extend or retract with the touch of a button. Sleeping quartersThere are 5 bedrooms with 5 king beds. 2 of the bedrooms also have "full size" futons. That means a "full" or aka "double bed" which is 6 inches less wide than a queen. These are not the futons I remember from college. These have 8" thick memory foam mattresses, and they are VERY comfortable. There is a 6th bedroom that has a sofa bed (queen size), a futon, and a small clothes closet. Permitted as a bedroom, it is more accurately described as a convertible space - either seeping, or living space. Its an extension of the living room that is separated by an archway and curtain. There are currently no window shades. This brings bed space to 18 guests (2 people per bed), but 15 is comfortable - 2 people per bed and 1 in each futon. FYI my short term rental permit is for a maximum of 12 adults and 12 minors.The pool, hot tub and water featuresThe salt water pool is 50' in length and perfect for lap swim, relaxing, playing or partying! There are 2 "Baha shelves" (shallow ledges) about 8" deep that are wonderful for lounging in the Ledge loungers, or for the kiddies to play. The deep part of the pool is about 7.5' deep in the middle and 4' deep at the ends (plenty for flip turns) . There are markers down the center of the length of the pool so you can maintain a lane while lap swimming. There are 2 bubblers that shoot water straight up for soothing sounds and play. The large stairs between the shelves create different depths so you can always find the right spot to linger with a beverage. The lights create a multi colored light show or solid light of your color preference for after dark pool parties or relaxing. No pool light creates an incredible mirror effect - my favorite. Pool temperature varies through out the year from about 77 to 83 degrees. If you would like it heated to a particular temperature let me know. There is an extra charge to compensate for the electric bill (around $50 per day but depends on the temp you desire).The large hot tub is 6' x 7.5' with powerful jets and bubbles.The "water wall" water features have water that runs down the face of the mosaic tile creating a soothing sound similar to rain. Outdoor livingThere are 3 levels: pool area, upstairs lanai, and roof top deck. All are connected by a circular staircase. The pool area features a 75" TV, a sofa that converts to a day bed, and 2 reclining loungers. A perfect place to relax in the evening especially with the pool in reflecting mode and the water walls in operation. Around the corner there is a bathroom (accessed from outside). There is also an outside shower to wash off after the pool, or when returning from the beach.The next level has the outside kitchen and bar, eating and living areas with a 70" TV housed in a custom motorized lift cabinet. The outside kitchen is adjacent to the inside kitchen. In essence it is one large kitchen 1/2 inside, 1/2 outside separated by a sliding glass door. This makes cooking, grilling, entertaining, etc. easy by having everything you need within a few steps. The outside kitchen features a large professional built-in grill, beverage center/refrigerator, 50 lbs. ice maker, bar sink, and the best part: a kegerator! The kegerator has 2 beer taps and 1 tap dedicated to ice cold filtered water. The drip pan under the dispensers drains to sewer so you can pour off the foam if needed.The top level (700 square feet) features beautiful ocean views and sunsets, as well as views of Haleakala and the West Maui mountains. Fun stuffWe have Ladder Golf and Corn Hole games for fun around the pool or take to the beach. There are also floaties for the pool and noodles too. We have at your disposal beach chairs, umbrellas and coolers (which you can fill with the 50lbs. icemaker)In summaryThe property is essentially a private luxury resort. The condo comes equipped with everything you need at the beach, such as beach chairs, umbrella, boogie boards, towels, and a cooler for cold drinks and snacks.The unit is located directly across from Sugar Beach, which is the longest walking beach on Maui. Take a morning stroll along the beach heading North for about a mile where you can stop to enjoy breakfast at Sugar Beach Bakery. The coffee and the baked treats (macadamia nut sticky buns are a favorite of ours) are an amazing way to start your day. This beach is a great spot for kite board surfers, wind surfers, paddle boarders, and snorkelers. There are beautiful sunsets every night you can enjoy from the lanai or walk just one hundred steps from the condo door to the beach. Take your camera, a beach chair, and a cold drink to enjoy this real time slide show of the incredible Maui sunsets, which are different every night.The condo is central to just about everything. It’s a short twenty minute drive to the Kahului Airport (OGG), Costco, and Target. Five minutes to central Kihei and forty minutes to Kaanapali, this condo has the convenience of being “The HUB” of Maui. Central to access the Road to Hana, the Haleakala Crater, Wailea, and Paia, this condo is the perfect location. Kihei also gets the least amount of rainfall anywhere on the island so you are sure to have the best weather Maui has to offer.There is so much to see and do all over Maui, we suggest getting a rental car to experience as much as you can during your visit. All major car companies are available at the airport or checkout Kihei Car Rentals for a more affordable option. World Class Golf courses (eg. Kapalua, Wailea), both public and private are close by. Shopping, restaurants, bars, convenience stores, groceries are all an easy drive away. There is a nice Safeway in Kihei off the Piilani Hwy and Piikea Avenue, and there is a fruit stand next to the Sugar Beach Bakery. We recommend trying Maui Gold pineapple at least once!When we are at the condo we look forward to making coffee each morning and sitting on the lanai to enjoy the spectacular ocean views while listening to the birds singing in the trees only a few feet away. Some of our favorite things to do and see have been checking out the Twin Falls on the road to Hana, walking along Dragon's Teeth up near Kapalua, snorkeling with the turtles in the ocean (but not too close!) and listening to the waves on one of the beautiful beaches. Our favorite beach is Wailea Beach for it's fine sand and clear snorkeling, and Big Beach for playing in the waves. (Be very careful though as it has a strong shore break, as the lifeguards will advise). Also, hiking in the Redwoods at Poli Poli park, or mountain biking are lots of fun too. You can rent great mountain or road bikes at Cranks in Makawao and hit the many trails.We also enjoy the many great dining options including Kihei Café (breakfast), Coconuts (fish tacos), Café O'Lei, Momma's Fish House, and Cool Cat Café, to name a few. After a long day sightseeing or beach going, it is very nice to return to the shade and cool AC of the condo and to an ice cold beverage of your choice. The pool and hot tub are a great way to have some down time, especially with kids who enjoy a pool setting and can be monitored from the many pool lounge chairs.You can see the top of Mount Haleakala (Hawaiian for House of the Sun). It is a dormant volcano over 10,000 feet high. One activity we highly recommend for both young and old is watching the sunrise from the top of Mt. Haleakala. You can take a tour to enjoy the scenic drive or drive yourself and enjoy your independence, however, you have to get up early (around 3:00AM) to get there on time.Other recommended activities are: Maui Ocean Center Aquarium (optional scuba with sharks), the Maui Golf & Sports Park for kids, Pacific Whale Center to whale watch, learn to surf at the cove, hike Iao Valley, walk by La Perouse Bay, helicopter tour to other Islands and remote untouched areas, the road to Hana, or simply relax and spend a day at the world's finest spa close by, the Grand Wailea Spa. Then finish the evening with a traditional Hawaiian Luau. There is so much to see and do on Maui, you can’t possibly do it all in one trip. Update: The Maui county council had approved the ban on short term condo rentals, effective 12/31/2030. There may have been some concern that this would cover rental properties like ours. It does not. Hopefully this provides some clarity if you have been following this process and were concerned about booking in the next couple of years.Come and enjoy our wonderful beach house with great three island ocean and mountain views. You are renting the middle level. We live upstairs so someone is always here to deal with any questions or problems. Please note that we have a lovable dog on the top level with us. But you have your own separate entrance and we really try to make it feel like have the place to yourselves. The ground level has game tables and other fun stuff for your use.This property is designed and provisioned for a single large family group. Note also for more than 10 guests you need to add the optional 4th BR, which is NOT included in the base price. All bedrooms and other inside space is on the same floor. Maximum occupancy for the 3 BR setup is 10 (ideally 6 adults and 4 kids). The maximum with the optional 4th BR added is 14 ( best with 8 adults and 6 kids). The additional nightly fee for the optional 4th bedroom is $170 in low season, $200 in high season, plus the Hawaii taxes. It occasionally may not be available so please check before booking if you need that. Note that except for the bedrooms there is very little interior space. Please consider that in deciding whether this is a good fit for the size/composition of your group. The house is designed for outdoor living.The middle level is available for guests with a separate entrance, It has three bedrooms, one with an ensuite bathroom, a second bathroom, a kitchenette and a living room. With the three bedroom basic set, there are two bedrooms each with a king bed and the third bedroom with 2 bunk beds (total of 4 singles). The optional 4th bedroom has a queen bed and a queen sleeper sofa. It also has an ensuite bathroom, small fridge, microwave, and a small washer and dryer. All bathrooms have showers, one has a tub. There are TVs in all rooms. The TV in the living room has premium cable service and internet, the others have internet access only. We have central air conditioning, with individual controlled diffusers in every room.The kitchenette has a full set of appliances, and there is also an outdoor stove/sink on the lanai. The primary dining area is on the lanai. There is a propane barbecue area downstairs with dining tables there as well. There is a washer and dryer, as well as a second set in the 4th bedroom. High speed internet is complementary.We have a covered, wrap around lanai of about 1,000 square feet. The views, both of the mountains and the ocean, are amazing (see photos). In season you can see the whales. This is a fairly bug free area being so close to the water, so you can enjoy this at night as well as in the day time – or in the rain. The property is surrounded by 6 foot rock wall for privacy. There is an automatic gate on the driveway, which is off Waimahaihai St..Also downstairs under the house is a game area with pool, ping pong, table soccer and air hockey. Also provided are a large selection of board and card games for all ages, as well as plenty of books. There are tennis racquets, basketballs, etc for use in the park next door.There is parking under the house for three cars. Note that on street parting is not allowed at any time. The house is completely solar powered, with a large Tesla battery system. There is a Level 2 charging system available for guest use.There is a 45 by 10 foot heated salt lap pool available for your use. Pool and beach equipment provided, including towels, stairs, and snorkel sets. You can shower off by the pool. We have plenty of bicycles so no need to rent those to get around. Two tandem and two single ocean kayaks and two stand up paddle boards (with life vests) are provided for guest use. Note that a liability waiver will need to be signed before use of the pool, bikes, SUPs and kayaks.Our property is on the corner of Waimahaihai and Halama Street on a cul-de-sac and just two houses away from the wonderful Kalama Park, a spacious 36-acre beach park that has lots of stuff to keep the whole family active and entertained. Sports events, outdoor concerts and festivals often take place here. There's also lighted basketball and tennis courts, a roller skating rink, a 20,000-foot skateboard park, football, baseball and soccer fields and a giant playground for children. The waterfront here is also a favorite fishing spot of the locals. The beach park is a great spot for picnics, and you can sit and watch turtles cruise by. There are picnic tables, twelve pavilions, restrooms and showers. We are one house away from the ocean so you can enjoy the cool breeze and the sounds of the surf. The property itself is professionally landscape with a pond with a waterfall and we are surrounded by flowering trees and plants. Sometimes it is just nice to watch the butterflies and dragonflies swoop all around. We are right across the narrow street from what we call “the World’s Smallest Beach”. This is great for launching your kayaks or whatever. There are also many other beaches within walking distance. If you are familiar with Halama Street, we are on the non-ocean front side of the street, though we have unobstructed direct ocean views.Halama Street is a hidden ocean front oasis and the street is one of the area’s favorite walking routes. There are a half dozen beach access paths along the street with the larger beaches to the north end of the street. You can also work for miles from there on the sand to Maalaea. There are certain neighborhoods in Maui—many of them not so well known—that have retained their personalities through the years, even as Maui’s demographic and vibe have changed. Halama Street is such a neighborhood, and many of its residents have lived on the street for decades. There is a private security patrol on the street.We are less than a 5 minute walk for the new movie theater, Starbucks. at least a dozen nice restaurants, the surf school, a great ocean walking path, craft and gift shops the Foodland store, and the Kihei Library.Please note that we have a dog, and we live in the top floor above the area that is rented. This is not a safety issue at all, but anyone with significant allergies should understand this situation. The dogs is very friendly. You may occasionally encounter her in the yard, but we would always be walking her..On the other end of the property, there is an Ohana that is rented long term to a quiet family. Their yard is separated from the BnB yard by the pond area and other fencing.Please understand the whole property, inside and out, is non-smoking and no e-cigs.Check in time is 3:00; check out time is 11:00. You MUST be out by 11:00 so it can be cleaned for the next occupant unless we have agreed to a late checkout in advance.You are strongly encouraged to take the VRBO offered insurance for damages, lost equipment or really excessive cleaning required.We pass on all Hawaii State and County Lodging Taxes charged by VRBO.
