We stayed six nights at this fairly spartan property that was fitted with basic room attributes including a small refrigerator, a hair dryer and a tiny safe. We requested a coffee maker and received a hot pot with instant coffee. Getting an iron in the room proved a bit of an ordeal. The room was clean and the beds were quite good. Hotel staff was uniformly convivial, accommodating and helpful with exception of an encounter with the night manager (more on that later). Only one low voltage outlet in the bathroom was provided that could power an electric razor. My daughter brought a dual-voltage curling iron and hair straightener that could not be used in the bathroom due to lack of an electrical outlet. Staff ultimately provided an extension cord to be strung from the nightstand, and over the bed that my daughter was able to use to reach a wall mirror in the bedroom. We had the misfortune to be at the property during the annual Pride celebration at Place de la Republique directly in front of the hotel. My wife has mobility issues and we had to push through hundreds of drunken celebrants to get to the only entrance to the hotel. Scary stuff getting pushed along by a mob where my wife could have fallen and been trampled. I understand the Pride celebration is a public event but its a scheduled event that the hotel could have alerted clients to and made provisions to have opened a guarded entrance on the backside of the building away from the inebriated mob. With an early morning departure to the airport, I went to the desk the night before to check out so we could leave quickly the following morning. The front desk clerk advised that the hotel had my card on file and my e-mail address so they would send me the bill thereafter with nothing additionally to be done the next morning - just drop the key and run. As we were leaving early the next morning the night manager told me that I couldn't leave because I hadn't settled my bill. He inferred I was skipping out without paying the bill. I recounted the discussion I had the previous night and he repeated firmly that the bill needed to be closed out before we could leave. It was an uncomfortable encounter that was unnecessary. Somebody needs training here and its not the client. In summary, I'd say this property lacked many expected elements for the price point and as such could only describe it as providing moderate value. The lack of provisions to accommodate client access during the Pride celebration and the check-out snafu made it seem that they were somehow new to the game.

Our booking We had a family room for 4 persons on the sixth floor in the first week of January 2023. We wanted a four person room for my, my wife and 2 daughters with a a bedsofa, which is difficult to find in Paris. This hotels could meet this requirement. Arrival When we arrived, the check-in went quick, the staff members were very friendly and helpful. Dear hotel management, do realize that this is one of the best assets of this hotel. The first thing that my wife spotted, one second after entering the room, was a huge long black hair next to the sink in the bath room. In addition, the kettle for tea, which we like to use, was missing. When I contacted the reception about this, within 5 minutes, we got the offer to move to another room on the same floor, which we did. Other room The room looked very similar, with bed that seem small for us, old fashioned and run down carpet, but clean and spacious and enough sockets to charge the devices. The breakfast was ok, and again especially the staff employees were very helpful and friendly. temperature the room was feeling much too hot and the air treatment system did not work at all for the entire 3 days stay. I slept bad because of this. Breakfast time communication There was some confusion about the end time of breakfast: we heard 10.30 am upon arrival and the next day, at 10 am, the service got shut down. One fellow started to take away the utensils. The more service orientated French/English and Spanish speaking Maroccan lady was so kind to resolve the issue. Thank you. Parking service This is very convenient and the receptionist helped us explaining the best option; pay per hour or by day. We paid 40 euro for 2 days.

We enjoyed our stay immensely. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The location is convenient, about a 3-4 minutes walk from the Metro. Once in the Metro, most of Paris is within 15 min. There are various restaurants and cafes within 10 minutes walking distance. The beds are very comfortable. The rooms are indeed small but nicely equipped. The lobby and breakfast area are very cozy and inviting. I had to check my emails and have business calls every night (despite the stay was for a family vacation). The lobby area has 24 hours of complimentary tea and coffee, and pastries. So that worked out well for late-night workers like myself. The common area also has a retro turntable with a good collection of vinyl records. The elevator is tiny and could fit two people, but some boutique hotels in Paris don't have elevators. The rooms are spotless. The showers are nicely equipped. The rooms' aesthetics is very nice. The rooms have plenty of power sockets and USB sockets for your devices.

I don't expect luxury from a hostel, but I do expect cleanliness. On the surface the hostel appears clean. Most importantly, the bed sheets and mattress are clean. However, look beyond that and you'll see it's filthy and obviously never given a deep clean. Down the side of the lower bunk there is what must be months and months of rotten food, old socks, dirt and dust that has been allowed to collect. No wonder the room smells so musty and stuffy. My bunk had blood streaks from a squashed bug (and live mosquitoes flying about), as well as sticky finger prints all over the bed panels and window. Furthermore, the noise level is crazy. I understand on a Friday people want to party so the bar was blasting out music and the 1st floor rooms are not sound proof - I actually didn't mind that. What annoyed me was the fact that they were blasting music through the speakers in the 1st floor toilet/shower rooms. WHY?! This made the room and hallways even noisier. Its only saving grace is the location (and free wi-fi). It can feel a bit dodgy walking through there alone as a single woman at night, but so can any big city... The hostel is close to some great bars, restaurants, and tourist attractions (Père Lachaise Cemetery, for example). I'd recommend hiring a bike to get around - there's quite a few Vélib' bike stations a short walk away.

We booked this hotel in advance as part of our journey home from holiday for a few days to show the kids Paris. Admittedly i thought I booked closer to the centre of Paris. Booked a family room. Arrived..area wasn’t my vision of Paris and the room i booked was no longer avail due to renovations…we only found out upon arrival. However the staff were amazing at ensuring our stay went smoothly. Nothing was too much trouble and they went out of their way to rectify the issue. At no stage was anything a problem. Some of the best customer service I’ve encountered and the staff are a real credit to the Hotel. Area outside was probably more the ‘real’ Paris rather than the romantic version .You wouldn’t walk alone in the dark! . However location after got my head around everything was actually great. Felt safer here than i did around some of the tourist spots! Metro is literally yards across the road and you were in the heart of Paris in no time. We used the underground as its the best and cheapest way to get around the city. Highly recommend and we zipped around the city and got to see alot in 48 hours. Don’t be put off by other people’s reviews. No city hotel is perfect but the team here take pride in thier jobs. Accommodation is clean, modern. Car park is mega handy…albeit a tight and small underground one.

이처럼 다채로운 매력을 지니고 있는 파리는 관광 명소들이 도시 전역으로 흩어져 있는데 대표적으로 에투알 개선문(The Arc de Triomphe), 샹젤리제 거리(Champs-Elysées), 루브르 박물관 (the Louvre), 에펠 타워(The Eiffel Tower) 노트르담 대성당(Notre Dame de Paris), 앵발리드(Les Invalides), 생제르맹데프레(Saint-Germain-des-Prés) 등이 있습니다. 그리고 도심을 벗어나 파리의 교외 지역으로 이동하면 베르사유 궁전(Palace of Versailles)과 파리 디즈니랜드 (Disneyland)가 있습니다.

참고로 파리는 2천년 전에 시테섬(Île de la Cité)을 중심으로 작은 어촌에서 시작하였습니다. 시간이 흘러 주변 지역에서 얻은 자원을 통해 계속해서 발전을 이룩하였고 중세 시대에 이르러 엄청난 발전이 일어나게 되었습니다. 그리고 그 기간에 역사적인 보존 가치가 높은 건축물과 유물들을 잘 유지 관리하여 현재의 파리가 탄생하게 된 것이죠. 이에 따라 파리는 서구 지역에서 역사, 문화, 예술, 패션을 선두하는 도시로 거듭나게 되었으며 최근에는 요리 분야에서도 뛰어난 업적을 계속해서 남기고 있는 도시가 되었습니다.

물론 이러한 역사와 문화에 대한 배경 지식을 갖고 있지 않더라도 에펠탑(Eiffel Tower)이나 에투알 개선문(The Arc de Triomphe) 그리고 노트르담 대성당(Notre Dame de Paris)과 같은 건축물들은 세계적으로 명성이 자자한 건축물이기 때문에 파리를 여행하는데 있어서 큰 어려움이 되지는 않습니다.

파리를 여행할 때 주요 지리적인 팁은 에펠탑을 제외한 다른 주요 관광 명소들이 세느강을 중심으로 오른편에 위치해 있다는 것입니다. 에투알 개선문(The Arc de Triomphe), 샹젤리제 거리(Champs-Elysées), 콩코르드 광장(Place de la Concorde), 뛸르히 가든(Tuileries Garden), 루브르 박물관 (the Louvre), 노트르담 대성당(Notre Dame de Paris)을 포함한 여러 명소들이 세느강 오른편에 위치해 있습니다.

다시 본론으로 돌아와서 위와 같은 관광 명소 이외에도 파리에는 대략 200개에 이르는 다양한 종류의 박물관이 있습니다. 그 중 대표적인 곳은 인상주의 작품이 전시되어 있는 오르세 미술관(Orsay Museum), 오랑주리 미술관(Orangery Art Museum), 로댕 미술관(Rodin Museum), 피카소 미술관(Picasso Museum)이며 예술을 좋아하는 사람들은 여러 종류의 박물관 및 미술관에 방문해보길 바랍니다.

파리 북부로 이동하면 100년 이상의 역사를 자랑하며 문화·예술적인 정체성을 간직하고 있는 몽마르트르(Montmartre) 언덕이 나옵니다. 이곳에서는 사크레쾨르 대성당(Sacré-Cœur)과 함께 파리의 아름다운 절경을 내려다 볼 수 있습니다. 참고로 이곳은 현대 파리인들의 삶을 기발하게 묘사한 영화 아멜리에(Amélie)의 촬영지이기도 합니다. 그리고 몽마르트 언덕에서 몇블럭 이동하면 테르트르 광장(Place du Tertre), 물랭 루주(Moulin Rouge), 사랑의 벽(Wall of Love)이 나옵니다.

파리에 방문하여 문화와 예술을 즐기면서 빼놓을 수 없는 것은 바로 프랑스 요리입니다. 파리는 특히나 최고로 손 꼽히는 미슐랭 레스토랑이 여러 곳 있을 정도로 높은 퀄리티의 요리들을 맛볼 수 있는데 대표적인 요리는 달팽이 요리와 프아 그라(거위 간으로 만든 파테(pâté) 그리고 그윽한 향기를 내는 와인을 곁들여 만든 스테이크 요리입니다. 이와 같은 음식을 먹고 난 후에 꼭 디저트와 커피를 맛보길 바랍니다.

1984년부터 현재까지 지속되고 있는 유럽 문화 유산의 날(The European Heritage Day)이라는 행사가 있습니다. 참고로 이 행사는 유럽에서 매년 9월 3째주 일요일에 개최되는데 해를 거듭하며 문화 예술을 사랑하는 유럽인들로 부터 점차 관심과 사랑을 받고 있는 행사로 각광받고 있습니다. 그리고 바로 2017년9월 16일부터 17일까지 파리에서 이 행사가 개최 되었는데 당시에 대략 2만개 정도 되는 파리의 관광 명소들을 모든 관광객들에게 무료로 입장하게 했습니다.

파리는 온대 지역으로 날씨가 다소 온화한 편에 속합니다. 연 평균 기온은 대략 10°C이며 겨울에는 3°C 그리고 여름에는 18°C 정도를 웃돕니다. 연평균 강수량은 619 mm 정도 되며 대체로 비가 한 시즌에 집중적으로 내리는 것이 아니라 일년에 걸쳐서 고르게 내립니다. 다만 여름과 가을에는 조금 더 많이 내리는 편입니다.

파리의 행정구역은 총 20개의 구역으로 1구에서 오른쪽으로 번호가 매겨져 1-4, 8-12, 16-20 구역은 센 강을 기준으로 오른쪽에 5-7, 13-15 구역은 왼쪽에 위치해 있습니다. 따라서 이와 같은 지역내에서 숙소를 예약할 경우 다음과 같은 내용을 참고하면 여행하는데 도움이 될 것입니다.

자연 환경과 교통 시설이 잘 갖추어져 있는 도심 지역을 원하는 경우는 1구역으로 카르티에 라탱이 있는 지역에서 머물기를 바라는 사람들은 5,6구역으로 에펠탑이 있는 곳에 머물기를 원하는 경우는 7구역으로 샹젤리제 거리 근처로 숙박시설을 잡길 바라면 8구역에서 머물면 됩니다.

마지막으로 교외 지역에서 머무는 것을 바라는 사람들은 14구역과 15구역에서 숙소를 예약하면 됩니다. 물론 파리는 국제 도시이기 때문에 저렴한 시설부터 고가의 시설에 이르기 까지 다양한 유형의 호텔이 있기 때문에 구역과 비용을 잘 고려하여 숙소를 예약하길 바랍니다.
