Overnight journey breaker turned into one of those unexpected pleasant stays that recharge the batteries. Staff were friendly and welcoming and the food in the restaurant was exceptionally good. The draught beer was well kept and the bar was comfortable. We'll be back possibly for the New Year party night but certainly for a walking weekend when the re-opening has taken place in 2025

The hotel has just undergone a renovation and I might have been the first to stay in my room. The staff was very helpful, the reno is great, the restaurant had good food, so the overall experience was very positive. A bonus was the driver who picked us up at the trail at the end of the day and returned us the next morning!

They are still in the process of renovating and reopening this hotel, so I can't speak to all the physical updates, but I want to give a shout-out to the outstanding service. Caroline, in reception, was fantastic: warm, welcoming and kind. I'd hurt my knee hiking--she helped with ice and patience! Dinner and drinks were delicious, in a nice setting, and the bar and server staff were charming. (The new restaurant just opened a couple of weeks ago.) As for the room, they've done well on the essentials: fabulous shower, bed and bedding. After two weeks in England, this has been one of my most comfortable, enjoyable stays.

Food was very good, however we were lured in when passing by the advertisement that kids eat free with Sunday lunch. upon receiving the bill we found out this was not the case as we were told by the waitress this offer applied for the school holidays only. This was five weeks after the school holidays had finished so ended up paying a lot more than anticipated. This left a bit of a sour note as we felt we had been tricked.

Stayed here 2 nights as part of a Travelzoo offer. The hotel is on the verge of a fairly major regeneration programme shortly and this is evident in building work and fixtures which have been removed and stacked in a corner. That was however not at all detracting from a stay which offers good old fashioned charm and service. Yes, it maybe dated, but the food and service rival many high end places visited, without the fuss or fanfare. The rooms were spotless, the linen flawless and the bed super comfortable so slept well too. Hope they don’t literally”throw the baby out with the bath water” when they modernise it, nor change the chef! It would be a shame if the revamp destroys something so good.

We visited the Wainstone’s Hotel yesterday for Sunday lunch. It was beautiful. I had lamb and it melted in my mouth. Love the fact it’s served at the table and no queuing at a carvery. Great veg selection too. Only improvement for me would be the gravy on the side rather than on the plate. Staff super friendly. Currently free meal for any child U12 with a full paying adult. Great value and super quality. This is about the third time we’ve been recently and it’s consistently very good.

Visited while walking coast to coast Our room was a bit dated, however there were notices up saying the hotel was in the process of being updated. Our room was clean and comfortable The excellent staff made this hotel, from the lady on reception when we arrived to Tracy at breakfast. Having had a couple of disappointing breakfast along the way, Tracy made our morning, efficient, organised and cheerful
