On arrival the receptionist was very helpful, the room was a good size and delightfully cool coming from the heat outside. The bathroom was well-appointed and the bed very comfortable. "This dilapidated 17th Century hotel was a tourist trap…It was perhaps the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. The stairs to the room were so steep we could barely get our luggage to the room. I felt the stairs were going to collapse under my feet. It was dark, dank, and to be honest a scary place to stay. We were met by the hotel manager who was pleasant enough, but we had to call him to open up the hotel so we could check in. Similarly the next morning when we tried to check out, he was no where to be found. We had to call the phone half a dozen times for him to pick up to get him to the desk. Quite frankly it felt like Hotel California - where you can check in but never leave…perhaps we were just one of the lucky ones and the devil said our souls weren’t pure enough to keep. Another comparison perhaps is the Batemans Hotel in Psycho"
