Perched in the Sierra Nevada foothills overlooking Tahoe National Forest, the Hummingbird House is a short drive from historic Grass Valley and Nevada City, yet feels private and remote. The Hummingbird House is a cozy studio cottage on our beautiful 7 acres property a short drive from historic downtown Grass Valley. There are two other houses on the property (one we live in, one with a long-term renter). We’ve got cell service and WiFi.The cottage offers a plush king bed and a desk area if you need to work remote (while gazing longingly out the window at the trees, mountains and birds of course). Full bathroom with shower and tub, a kitchen with stove, microwave, oven, toaster, coffee maker - all the utensils and cookware you need. We provide freshly ground coffee and a few tea options.Additional sleeping options are the convertible couch in the living room area, which folds down into a full size bed (mattress topper offered for extra comfort) and/or we can provide an air bed.The cottage has a wrap-around deck with dining table and chairs and a futon that can fold down into a bed for optimum stargazing and napping. There is also a private patio and porch swing, in case everyone needs their own little outdoor nook.Guests are encouraged to explore the property! Sit by the pond, try out our makeshift disc golf course (i.e. trees for targets!), utilize the shared outdoor kitchen equipped with sink and bbq, walk the land, play cornhole, watch what we like to call "Hummingbird TV".... And we highly recommend exploring the garden to see what's in season, make yourself a bouquet, or pick some plums, pears, apples, etc! With over 90+ different flowers, trees, herbs etc growing on the property there is lots to explore. We can also provide binoculars and a bird guide for the bird enthusiasts!Dogs are welcome, but please note there are other dogs that live on the property that might come say hello! They are friendly, but you can let us know if it's an issue. It is drivable to or a short, but mildly challenging hike down to where we have created a park setting. Stairs that lead to the water's edge, a large swimming hole to enjoy, seating at numerous sites along the creek bed, a Winnebago camper with electricity, water and a functional bathroom next to a 16'x18' deck with a barbecue are all at your disposal. At your suite you can have use of a propane barbecue with a side burner located on the deck. If you travel down to the creek, we will ask you to sign a liability waiver first.The spacious unit is set up with 2 twin beds made up as a queen. About this spaceThe house sits off a quiet country road on 17-acres in the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range bordering the Bear River. We are located 9 miles from Old Town Auburn and 1 hour from Lake Tahoe. The suite is approximately 600 sq ft and attached to the main house with its own private entrance. It’s perfect for a single or couple, and comfortably sleeps up to 4 adults. It is suitable for long term stays. The spaceYou will enter through a touch pad door lock into your newly remodeled suite that boasts modern décor and finishes throughout. There is a full-size kitchen with anything you may need to prepare a home cooked meal. The kitchen has a microwave, electric stove top with oven, toaster, Keurig and coffee pot (with some coffee and tea included), refrigerator with freezer, dishwasher, dishes, glasses, silverware, pots and pans, electric can opener, and other cooking essentials. The living room has a sofa that pulls out into a queen size bed, a coffee table which has assorted games in it, dining/worktable with two chairs, TV with movie channels and prerecorded content, DVD player, and breathtaking views through the large windows that are the best view in the house overlooking the river. Sit on the couch and enjoy the view with the windows open where you can hear the sounds of the river.The bedroom has a ceiling fan with a queen pillow-top mattress and views of the mountains. There is a full bathroom with a single vanity, standing shower, and toilet. We provide plush towels as well as shampoo, conditioner, soap, and a hairdryer. There is a closet with hangers, ironing board and an iron under the bathroom sink. Additional pillows, sheets, blankets, and towels can be found in the kitchen pantry next to the refrigerator. The riverbank has small, rounded pebbles and rocks so water shoes are suggested for comfort when going into the water (recommended but not needed). The river is less than a quarter mile from the house. If you have a 4-wheel drive vehicle you can drive to the river, otherwise it’s an easy 5-minute walk downhill with a moderate walk uphill back to the house. Enjoy the views of the river, forest, and wildlife. We have a campsite by the river that has picnic tables, lounge chairs, a gas BBQ, fire-pit, porta potty, and a basketball hoop.
