The Inn at Grasmere

Nice room. This was a belated treat for my partners birthday. I’d upgraded the room, so we had what I think was a club room. We were in 304. The room itself was lovely, seperate seating area between the bedroom and bathroom area and with a little balcony with a view out to the village, very nice. We were disturbed on Saturday morning by workmen out on the scaffolding doing roofing work, right outside our bedroom. When we went downstairs for breakfast, I raised it on our way back with reception. I was told they hadn’t been expecting them to turn up for work that day, but they had. The work had also been ongoing for 6 weeks, prior to me making the booking and no mention of it. I was told there were no other rooms available. No apology, no offer of any compensation, no anything. We couldn’t use the balcony due to the noise and the workmen. The room was also poorly soundproofed, you could hear people walking in the corridor, as if they were in the room, you couldn’t even hear the bell of the lift from the room. A member of staff on reception later was more interested in his phone than doing his job efficiently, a couple of times. When we returned to the hotel on the Saturday evening to the bar around 9pm, it was noticably cold, and the fire was not lit. We got our drinks and moved away from the bar to a different area where it was warmer and it appeared that most of the people from the bar had done the same thing. Breakfast was nice. Just attention to detail most definitely needed in some areas. Overpriced for what you get in my opinion. A nice hotel, but needs some tweaks.

Me and my husband stayed here last week for 2 nights as a little Honeymoon after our wedding. From the moment we arrived we knew we were going to love it. We had booked the Silver Howe room which was gorgeous with a lovely outdoor sitting area too, and the bathroom was beautiful! All the staff were very nice and friendly and couldn't do enough for you. We ate at the restaurant both nights and thought the food was fab. We also loved the breakfast, I like the fact we were able to go and help ourselves to tea and coffee. We would definitely come back again, the area was gorgeous too. After a full on day for our wedding 2 days earlier, this was a perfect couple of days of peace and quiet, thank you.

I successfully booked 2 nights for myself 4 months before my stay. After two weeks the Inn called to say I could only have 1 night and simply said it was an oversight and the room wasn't available for the second night? I had entered into a gruelling bike challenge and needed the second day there to recover but had no option but to accept this change although this meant a 20 mile drive after the race to a different accommodation down in Milnthorpe as everywhere else was full. So for me this was poorly handled. The room. It was clean and the bed was extremely comfortable. Everything worked and I have no complaints there. I had been told, as I had paid for bed and breakfast that as everyone who was taking part in the bike event was up and out very early the hotel would be laying on a take away breakfast (no choice was offered) I was grateful and picked this up on the night before the event. This was awful! The cost of a breakfast there is about what you would expect but this was a cheap and totally unsuitable offering! 1 small wrinkled satsuma, 1 unripe banana, 1 cheap sugar bar, 1 cheap tiny orange flavour drink and 1 small pot of dehydrated porridge. Total cost to them I estimate at £3 maybe less? Absolute garbage! It is a real shame as the staff are pleasant and the place is fine for the overall price but the way my booking was handled was poor and the breakfast was terrible.

The hotel is in a great location right in the village with 20+ parking spaces, bus stops just along the road and an outside patio perfect for a pint or two of their excellent bitter. It is an old building with lots of character and charm but is very well maintained and is spotlessly clean. Our room, 114, was comfortable but our modern shower room was rather tight for elbow space. Our dinner was quite disappointing and the wine was the usual silly hotel high price; breakfast was very good although it is a shame when a Cumberland kitchen almost cremates Cumberland sausages. The best thing about the Inn was the staff all of whom were friendly, helpful and professional; special thanks must go to Jenifer on reception, Emma in the restaurant and the young man, dressed all in black, in the breakfast room, all of whom were just excellent. In spite of dinners we really enjoyed our overnight stay and would love to return soon. Thankyou all.

We had a really pleasant stay at this hotel, which is in a great central location in Grasmere. We stayed in the Burrell Suite, which has recently been renovated — the room was comfortable, nicely decorated, and had lovely views of the surrounding area. The hotel has a calm, welcoming feel with tasteful interiors and a relaxing atmosphere. It’s a great base for exploring the village and nearby walks. We’d happily return and would recommend it to anyone looking for a peaceful place to stay in the Lakes
