"이곳을 어떻게 감히 5성급 호텔이라고 부를 수 있죠? 마치 고급 상점들로 둘러싸인 큰 로비를 지어놓고는 더 이상 신경 쓸 필요가 없다고 생각한 것 같았습니다. 서비스는 최악이었어요. 직원들은 완전히 무관심하고 지루해하는 모습이었습니다 (남자 매니저 몇 명은 괜찮았지만요). 환전을 하려고 하니 담당자가 아직 도착하지 않았다고 하더군요. 몇 시간 후에 다시 갔더니 퇴근했다고 했습니다. 결국 길거리 암시장에서 환전해야 했습니다. 다른 간단한 요청에도 직원들은 당황하거나 시큰둥한 표정만 지었습니다. 조식 뷔페는 평범했고, 특별할 것 없었습니다. 저녁 식사는 더 최악이었어요. 근사한 저녁을 기대하고 갔더니 호텔 투숙객이 아닌 사람들이 대형 TV를 보려고 와서 자리가 하나도 없었습니다. (호텔 단골손님 한 명은 식당이 술 마시고 TV 보는 사람들 덕분에 돈을 더 번다고 하더군요.) 저는 바에 앉아 밥과 채소로 된 간단한 식사를 시켰습니다. 음식이 담긴 그릇 세 개가 나왔는데, 하나는 차가운 흰쌀밥이 뭉쳐 질척거렸고, 다른 하나는 차갑고 물컹거리고 신선하지 않은 야채가 들어있어 돌려보내야 했습니다. 세 번째 그릇에는 정체불명의 소스가 담겨 있었는데, 그걸 먹고 밤새 속이 안 좋았습니다. 객실은 기껏해야 4성급 수준입니다. 목욕 가운, 슬리퍼, 미니바, 커피 메이커, 펜, 문구류조차 없습니다. 욕실은 위험할 정도입니다. 유리 샤워 부스가 나무로 된 출입문과 거의 부딪힐 뻔해서 바닥이 젖어 있을 때는 이동하기가 매우 위험합니다. 다른 5성급 호텔에서 볼 수 있는 편의 시설은 전혀 찾아볼 수 없습니다. 객실에 환영의 의미로 주스나 과일 한 잔도, 환영 메시지도 없습니다. 인테리어, 음식, 서비스, 직원 태도 등 그 어떤 것도 우리를 환영해 준다는 느낌을 주지 못했습니다. 사람들은 긴 진입로와 웅장한 로비에 속아 이곳을 고급 호텔로 착각하지만, 5성급 호텔이라는 명성에 걸맞은 것은 아무것도 없습니다."

"Marcelo is decent choice for those wishing to spend a few days on Togo's coast. I have mixed feelings about this area on the edge of Lome. The shoreline is either fancy hotels or slums and serious poverty. Reception staff were friendly and welcoming. My two floor suite felt luxurious to me, who doesn't normally stay in places like this. The wooden floor wasn't perfect. Sharp to stand on in places where it was uneven. Fixtures in the bathroom not that well maintained. Despite being seemingly nearly empty, they placed me in a suite which faced outwards, outside of the hotel grounds. I would have preferred to face inwards but once I was there, I couldn't be bothered to ask to move. The swimming pool is massive and was wonderful to have access to in the heat as it was. Would have been nice if they'd placed a few tables there too, instead of just sunbeds. The umbrellas weren't well maintained and were beginning to fall apart in places. The included breakfast in the restaurant was great. Very varied buffet, options to suit many tastes, good coffee. The rest of the food served in the restaurant certainly did not live up to the prices, which are astronomical for Togo. Unfortunately, any meal in this area is a battle between you and the flies. I found this very uncomfortable. A few flies are to be expected in a hot country, but this was like a plague. It was nowhere near this bad anywhere else I've visited Benin, Togo and Ghana. I can only guess that it is this way due to the squalid living conditions in the area around. One day I had a pizza and I was basically stuffing it into my mouth with one hand whilst constantly waving my hand over the remainder. All drinks have to be covered with coasters. The little cove they've created for swimming is a nice idea. The sewage (or whatever it was floating in the cove at hightide did not make it tempting to swim. So, if you want a hotel of reasonable quality in this area then you could do worse than Marcelo. But I would suggest that there are many better places for a beach holiday."

Effective Wi-Fi, fairly decent TV, rooms at 22,000 without Canal+, few channels available except France24 and TV5Monde. Canal+ available in rooms at 27,000. Huge breakfast. Quiet and peaceful night. Legal European couples welcome."
