We stayed in the Thomas Gainsborough suite & it was lovely. Had a lovely meal & the breakfast was very good too. Great place to escape to in a beautiful rural area just outside Braintree. Diana the owner as well as Amy one of the staff members were very hospitable & couldn’t do enough for you. Would recommend to friends & family.

We stayed in the Captain Oates Room for 2 nights so we could attend a wedding at Hedingham Castle and I can't recommend enough. We arrived just before 8pm and were greeted by the landlady who was very accommodating. The room was absolutely lovely and had everything we needed. Separate shower and bath, which was brilliant for my young son who prefers baths. Breakfast was beautiful the next morning. Upon opening the fridge to get milk for my cup of tea that the jug had fallen over. I informed the landlady and just as I was getting ready to leave a lovely lady knocked on the door with a fresh jug of milk and said that she would clean the fridge. When I say lovely lady, she was genuinely just the nicest person, so friendly and chatty, even advised me when I asked her if I had my fascinator on properly. Then when at home, my husband got a call, I hadn't even realised that I'd left a ring in the room, but they kept it safe for me until it could be collected. I'd definitely return and highly recommend.

A very well appointed room with lovely views across the countryside and an extremely comfortable bed. Diana's attention to detail is second to none and we thoroughly enjoyed everything about our stay. We hope to have the opportunity to return in the near future.

A warm and friendly welcome from the staff and the location is very peaceful and picturesque. Diana and her team really look after you. The views from the rooms are lovely too, overlooking local farms, fields and forests. A highly recommended location and we will be returning for sure

Gorgeous accomodation.We were in the Gainsborough room. Very spacious . Even had own fridge and we were given milk on arrival as well as bottled water. Really large shower room. All very clean. Bed huge and very comfortable!! Small area to sit out the back. Stones throw from pub for breakfast and dinner. Great food and lovely host Diana. All her team work hard. We will return.

We booked via telephone following finding hotel online. Very friendly and easy booking. Stayed 3 nights while visiting friends and local area. Hotel very nice, nice big room, clean and well equipped (some more drawers would have been useful), food was excellent, both breakfast and dinner. Staff very friendly and helpful. Enjoyed our stay very much and will be back at some point.
