Refugia Chiloé

We expected to stay four nights but due to illness, stayed eight in total and the team at Chiloe could not have looked after us better. Amazing food, wonderful cocktails (so many non alcoholic due to medication), superb trips out with the guides and from our room we were able to watch the dolphins play in the water. A truly magical place to stay. The entire team were friendly, helpful, caring and made the extended stay less traumatic for us both. The daily hospital visits were made so much easier by Karen who helped with translation and was a complete star. So much kindness was shown to us, we felt like part of the family and leaving was really hard. One day we hope to return fully fit and able to make the most of the more energetic trips!

What a privilege to come to this extraordinary haven. Rolling green pastures down to a fascinating tidal bay filled with mussel ropes and drawing your eye to the distant snow capped volcanoes. This is a place to come and slow down, learn about the local culture and marvel at the birdlife. Enjoy the incredible food, wine and cocktails and the warm, kind natured staff. Lots of excursion options and a beautiful wooden boat from which to search for dolphins, penguins and seals around the archipelago. Fairytale wooden houses and a maritime history make this place unlike anywhere I have ever visited. I really look forward to returning with my family one day. Wow! What a wonderful hotel. All of the staff are extremely friendly and helpful, and always smiling. The food is excellent. A beautiful hotel in a magical place with amazing people! Our stay at Tierra Chiloé is probably one of the best of any other vacation we've experienced around the world. Nothing was wrong.

My wife and I stayed at Tierra Chiloe for three nights, and we wished we could have stayed much longer. We had a great feeling about the lodge as soon as we were picked up from the airport. The driver was courteous and friendly, and as soon as we arrived, Mauricio was the epitome of helpfulness when showing us all the facilities. The staff even kept the restaurant open for us to have lunch, even though the restaurant was officially closed. The lodge is located in a fantastic setting with superb views. The lodge is also extremely comfortable, furnished to very high standards, with a great attention to detail. The food and drinks were of high quality, and all the staff and guides extremely helpful and friendly. On our last morning, we had an early departure at 08.00, but the staff prepared a meal from the kitchen for us at 07.30, even though officially the restaurant was not open for breakfast until 8.00. The lodge also gave us a packed lunch for our onward travels. We shall definitely stay here again when we next travel to Chile.

I had read about Tierra Chiloe in a Conde Nast Article making the affirmation that it must be one of the coolest hotels in Chile. After going i really understood why!, Chiloe is an off the beaten track destination known mostly by chileans and birdwatchers, hopefully this will change since it is an amazing little island full of nature, history and local culture. This hotel is the perfect base to explore this unique island and i loved the architecture / decoration both things Tierra stands out for, its set on a peninsula overlooking a vast wetland coast a super romantic chill setting for a couple getaway and its hands down a foodie paradise, we were lucky to be able to visit the hotels orchard with the Chef who explained the diversity and abundance of local ingredients and for dinner one of the nights they did a Curanto a typical preparation from Chiloe with musicians outside in the hotels garden. Rooms are super cozy and have amazing views, the living room and dining room areas are spacious and you can really appreciate how well designed this hotel is and the detailed woodwork inspired by the typical island constructions. The excursions are varied and they even have a lovely boat for visiting different islands, do kayak and stand up paddle, there are e-bikes and horse riding. I saw austral dolphins right by the hotels dock while doing SUP!, and the day we went out on the boat after arriving from visitina a Unesco Church they had set up a delicious lunch on board. We also decided to go all out on this trip and we booked the hydroplane flight which was perfect to see the island of Chiloe from a different perspective and it arrived to pick us up right at the hotels dock!. Finally i need to share that when you come back from your activities the Spa is really out of this world with a very chic design, an indoor and outdoor pool, saunas, wonderful massages and the view from the infinity pool overlooking the wetlands is fantastic. Every day in the evening one of the waiters would appear while we were enjoying some reading and the views in the lobby area and offer a different appetizer with the cocktail of the day, once you tried them it was impossible to refuse the urge to see what the bartender and chef had created. I must also point out that i was really impressed by the kindness of the staff and the overall experience!. I absolutely recommend this hotel and would go back, it was a perfect relaxing romantic getaway and their signature gastronomy really surprised me and exceeded all of my expectations. We stayed for four night, including over the New Year and to say this hotel is exceptional is an understatement. The staff are some of the best we have come across, nothing is to difficult. Our drivers and guides set the standard as far as we are concerned. They are knowledgeable, pleasant and a joy to be with. They make exploring of this magical island in northern Patagonia a real treat. Our room had amazing view, as all do. They are well appointed and just the place to crash after a day exploring. The meals were all great, especially the traditional food produced in a traditional oven on one night. Explore, discover, and indulge, that should be their motto.
