"If you like staying in identikit chain hotels don't bother booking here. This is a place with bags of character. It has been refurbished in a way that almost makes it seem that it hasn't. I am glad they charge a modest rate because if they charged a lot more they would probably have to add a lot of 'comforts' and 'luxuries' that would detract from the charm. Rooms are spacious and comfortable, the bathrooms clean, and the lounge and dining room have great views. The cooking is unpretentious - good quality home cooking rather than trying to be fine dining. Loved eating breakfast outside on the terrace in the morning sun. Overall it feels authentically Victorian rather than 'Designer Victorian'. Possibly the hotel I have most enjoyed staying in."
