Imagine being in a story book round house with turqoise and golden floors, set on 2.5 acres of Sonoran desert facing the Tucson Mountains. Having lived our lives here in the desert, we newly renovated our family adobe block home ourselves, as artists and builders, to capture what we love about the desert and the local culture. It is earthy and elegant, like a yurt inside, one big open and spacious room with a stunning wood ceiling. Only the bathroom is separate with a beautiful Moroccan Tadelakt walk-in shower and claw foot tub. The full kitchen has a Mexican Talavera tile counter top, full sized refrigerator, stocked with all the basics, espresso machine, and many amenities. The backyard is fully fenced with a ramada for shade, a fire pit, and a propane barbecue.The desert property is filled with saguaro cactus, and native plants. You can enjoy a meal under the ironwood tree, watching the sunsets or mountains . Perfect for astronomers and night sky enthusiasts as this is a dark sky designated area with the world famous Kitt Peak Observatory less than 50 miles away. Great for hikers with Saguaro National Park trails within minutes , and many cycling and mountain biking opportunities. The Sonoran Desert Museum is 6 minutes away. Old Tucson , once a Film Studio for over 300 Western Movies , now a theme park, is a 15 minute drive through the park. Iron Wood National Monument is a 15 minute drive to the west for wide open uninhabited desert experiences and hikes with ancient petroglyphs. Downtown Tucson is only 30 minutes away and Tucson International airport is also only 40 minutes away. The Tucson Mountains separate this home from the city so you’re able to enjoy the peace of the desert yet still “go to town”. You won’t find cows or horses at OUR ranch, just abundant, native Sonoran Desert wildlife amid stunning mountain views. The out-of-the way, private setting down our short dirt driveway invites a leisurely attitude towards such modern worries as pants. An ideal choice for an adventurous family, reunions, retreats, or several couples who like privacy while sharing the overall space.Our main house is a locally storied and funky, two-story octagon filled with color, tropical plants, original artwork, heaps of books, and curiosities in every corner. You’ll also find all the comforts of home inside with our gourmet kitchen, washer and dryer (plus a clothes-saving, outdoor line), two and a half baths in the main octagon house (one with a jacuzzi tub), four bedrooms (one king and three double beds), a fold-out couch that sleeps two more, internet (50-100 Mbps in both buildings), central heating and A/C, wood fireplace, rustic pine floors under a cathedral ceiling with skylights. And it’s all encircled by a covered wrap-around porch so you can lounge in the shade or the sun anytime. For check-in security, there is a security camera outside to monitor for unauthorized guests and pets, so please be sure to disclose both before checking in. Over 10 guests there will be an additional $20 fee per guest/day for up to 16 guests max. Any unauthorized guests/pets will be charged $50 per addition. The separate, repurposed metal building, our Sonora Shack, has a full bathroom with shower and kitchenette with convection/air fryer and small fridge/freezer. downstairs. Thanks for looking at our Sonoran home! Escape your busy life to our sunny, 5-acre sanctuary, nestled in the close-in Tucson Mountain District just east of Saguaro National Park and 15 minutes west of downtown. Our Santa-Fe style home, with its giant, natural beams and stucco exterior, has been a highly rated rental property for the last 17 years with many repeat visitors, and we are the new owners. We’ve added solar heating to the dramatic infinity pool which extends the season by a few weeks fall and spring, though not through the winter. It hangs out over the wild and natural scenery with an army of saguaro cacti and breathtaking views of the Catalina Mountains and wild desert landscape. You won’t want to leave the pool and bubbling hot tub / spa scene on our patio, day or night, as this is entertainment enough to keep you busy! There’s a covered brick patio with large dining table for enjoying your meals outdoors, or just sit and watch the twinkling stars, spectacular city lights and the moonrise. There’s a perfect spot for yoga, and plenty of lounges for sunning. While Tucson offers many fabulous dining options, a serious cook will love our large, fully equipped kitchen with bar seating and a big island. A trip to the nearest grocery store (or a bit longer drive to my favorite store, AJ’s) and you’re set for wonderful nights in, plus breakfasts and dramatic sunrises. We will provide a list of convenient shops and restaurants for you when you arrive! There are drip and Keurig coffee pots and some coffee to get your motor started. The adjacent dining room has a family-sized table plus a little coffee-drinking spot, with big picture windows to observe the desert and watch for deer & wildlife. A spacious, vaulted living room offers a large TV on Dish network so you can pull up your favorite movies, or bring your DVDs, and a comfy leather couch for your naps! Large picture windows provide an ever-changing scenery where you can watch morning break, night fall, or weather blow through the valley. Guests have raved about our comfortable beds! There are three bedrooms, two with king beds and attached bathrooms. The primary/master bedroom has room for a rollaway (provided) or baby’s porta crib (not provided) and all bedrooms offer plenty of closet space and hangers. The third bedroom has a queen sized bed and is next to the hall bath. You’ll find comfy robes hanging in your closet, plus laundry baskets, and we have a new washer/dryer. There is also a guest/half bath. Bedrooms are conveniently separated with the master on one wing and the other two bedrooms situated on the opposite side of the house.Internet and wi-fi are provided, as is a comfortable desk setup for working from home. Our cell phones work great up on the hilltop! There are plenty of bath and pool towels, but don’t forget your sunscreen! Two-car attached garage will keep your cars in the shade, and there is a circle turnaround in the front. The half-mile private drive up to the house is an adventure as you climb to the hilltop, and it adds to the amazing experience staying at Casa Gaje. All of this beauty exists just 10 minutes to grocery shopping, Saguaro National Monument, Costco or Starbucks! Highway 10 makes navigating to U of A, the airport, or downtown a breeze. This property feels a world apart from civilization, yet you’re within 15-20 minutes from many outstanding restaurants. If you love hiking, we’re in the sweet spot- the Sweetwater Preserve and Camino del Cerro trailheads are a couple of minutes away, as is the Saguaro National Park with many hiking options. There are about a dozen trailheads within a 15 -20 minute drive.Shoppers will find the Premium Outlet shopping within a few minutes drive, and the Lost Barrio shops are definitely worth checking out for authentic and unique treasures. There are cute boutiques throughout town and lots of cool areas to explore. Stargazers will love the nearby Flandrau Science Center & Planetarium, Stuart Observatory, Mt Lemmon Sky Center Observatory or the grandaddy of them all, Kitt Peak Observatory is 62 miles and well worth the visit!In looking at airfare options, the house is about 25 minutes from Tucson Airport, just over 95 minutes from Phoenix Sky Harbor, although the car rental process at PHX might easily add more than hour to your travel time. Starr Pass Golf is 10 minutes. 1st bedroom is an upstairs Master suite with a large whirlpool tub, stone surround shower and large walk-in closet. It has a balcony overlooking pool and valley with the Catalina Mountains in background and city lights in between. All bedrooms have desert view windows and wildlife to see.The entire home and property are for the exclusive use of guests, including 3 car garage and private office space. Outdoor space includes covered patio with outdoor dining private pool and hot tub surrounded by Sonoran desert landscape. Imagine yourself on our VERY peaceful one acre, totally private and serene sanctuary nestled on a hilltop in the middle of the desert near the Saguaro National Park…. yet only five miles from the freeway or bike path. Our amazing backyard offers a totally private and tranquil setting with breathtaking views in EVERY direction where you will be surrounded by nature. You will be part of the true desert experience with animals passing through and coyotes serenading you are night as you enjoy the best sunsets ever. Our backyard is a haven for relaxation and fun with our sparkling pebble tech pool and spa for cooling off or soaking up the sun. Adjacent to the pool is a cabana for shade, an outdoor bar for enjoying drinks, and an outdoor TV that you can enjoy from the pool. If you are looking for a little something to do, enjoy a game of darts, horseshoes, or a nap in our hammock under the treehouse. In the cooler months the pool can be heated for an additional charge. For larger gatherings, we have three separate outdoor seating areas in the backyard and other in the front yard, two chaise lounges, two umbrellas, a gas grill, outdoor heater and fire pit. For the kids, we have created a haven of entertainment. They can explore our three- level tree house, complete with monkey bars, a slide and a rock wall for climbing adventures. If that isn’t enough, we have plenty of sand toys to enjoy in our poolside sand box or they can get their jump-on on our trampoline. There are also plenty of outdoor and pool toys for hours of fun. Inside, the kids can enjoy a fully stocked game cabinet, toys, magnetic darts, a foosball table and vintage arcade game all in the extra large third “kids” bedroom. Our indoor living space offers a very comfortable and inviting atmosphere with two separate living rooms. You will find three cozy couches where you can relax and unwind. For the ultimate relaxation, we have a double recliner where you can kick back and catch up on your favorite shows or sporting events on the 75’ TV with the top tier cable package. One of the highlights of our indoor living space is a massive picture window overlooking the front yard, showcasing our beautiful desert-scape, mountains and wildlife. Enjoy your favorite concoction at our dry bar or a snow cone from our snow cone machine. Our extra large dining table is located in the center of our open concept home where you will enjoy memorable meals with your loved ones. Our kitchen is fully equipped with all spices, paper products, coffee, dish ware, cooking supplies you could ever need. All appliances are new, including the refrigerator that provides crushed or cubed ice from the door. Enjoy a conversation with the chef from the breakfast bar or bistro table while enjoying the breathtaking view from the kitchen picture window. You will also find a fully stocked laundry room with a new washer and dryer. Our large master bedroom has the most comfortable mattress you may ever experience, our guests comment. It is a brand new hybrid memory foam adjustable king size piece of heaven. Watch the 70 inch TV or nature through the sliding glass door from bed. You will also find our large walk in closet and en suite very accommodating. An oversized bathtub makes it easy to bathe the little ones. You will find the second full bathroom conveniently located in the hallway. The walk-in shower is easy to maneuver with just a two-inch step up for entry. The bright and cheery second bedroom also offers a very comfortable queen size adjustable mattress and, as in all three bedroom, offers a ceiling fan for great air flow. The third bedroom is extra large and comes complete with a queen size bed below a bunk bed over-top. The kids nook has a memory foam mattress for additional sleeping space if needed. The kids will have a blast with their own TV, magnetic dart board, foosball table, arcade game and toy closet. Our guests comment that their kids never want to leave. For your little ones, we have dish ware, a pack-n-play with a “real” mattress, changing table and more, high chair, infant toys, infant, toddler and kids life jackets. Fur babies are welcome. Please keep them off the furniture and clean up after them. We have toys, treats and a bed for them too!! For those who need to catch up on work or need to stay connected, you will find a Sante Fe style desk overlooking the backyard and a 1400+ speed internet connection. When your work is done, a well known trailhead is a short walk away and nothing short of spectacular. Our home will provide the perfect home base for your Tucson adventures, your family gatherings and your rejuvenating get aways.
