You will be staying in the middle of Amish country& love the easy access to all the shops, food, tourism,and all that Shipshewana has to offer! You will be within walking distance to The Pumpkinvine Nature Trail with miles of trails for biking, walking,etc! This cozy cottage has access to Ship Lake which is a great fishing lake! The Living Room and Dining room are very spacious,open concept and an awesome place to hang out with your family and friends! Living room has Dish Tv with a 65” flatscreen to relax and watch a movie or the big game! The Kitchen has new stainless appliances and is stocked with utensils,small appliances like toaster,blender,hot water kettle,air fryer,pots pans etc! The main level Bedroom has a King bed with chest of drawers and a closet for your clothes. The Full Bath is right outside the Master Bath and is stocked with towels,washcloths! The back entrance serves as a mud room, and has a Washer and Dryer for your use should you need it. Going upstairs (side note,the upstairs was an add on so the stairs are narrow) you will have a landing room that has a Full bed and also a Sofa couch that easily flips out to a bed perfect for kids to sleep on. The landing room has a Flatscreen that also has Dish Tv so your kids can watch their own shows while you watch yours in the Living Room! The upstairs also has a Bedroom with a queen Bed! More sleeping options are available in the living room,the couches are pullout hide a beds! Relax for a quiet stay in this charming, fully renovated cottage with ample parking, hi-speed internet, easy access to lake and trails, and all the comforts of home. It's a 3-minute drive, 10 minute bike-ride or 20 minute walk to downtown Shipshe. THERE IS NO HOT TUB.The fully-equipped eat-in kitchen with pantry has a table for 6 and all new appliances - fridge, gas range, microwave, dishwasher and disposal, plus mini-waffle maker, air fryer and bagel toaster. Coffee drinkers, we've got you covered! The kitchen is equipped with a Keurig, drip coffee pot, electric tea pot and pour-over coffee carafe. And there's a coffee bean grinder!The kitchen LED fan/light combo has a remote-operated dimmer and adjustable-speed fan. All bedrooms have ceilin fans. Every room features multiple windows for plenty of natural light, and all have cordless pull-down blinds for safety. There's easy parking for four vehicles in the driveway behind the house, plus two more parking spaces in front of the house, with room to park a boat with trailer, or an RV.The cottage has four spacious bedrooms and two full bathrooms. Two bedrooms feature Nectar king beds (one on the first floor, one upstairs) and one has a Helix queen (first floor). The other upstairs bedroom has two comfy twin beds.The first floor bathroom features a tub shower with grab bar. There's an oversized single vanity and large linen closet, with padded linoleum that feels nice underfoot. The upstairs bathroom has a glass shower. Everything is brand new, and there are lots of big, fluffy towels and oversized bath sheets.The beds comfortably accommodate 8 adults, plus 3 more kids or adults with the futon, twin air mattress and Tatami mattress. All bedrooms have ceiling fans, closet space and a dresser. All dressers, the desk and the kitchen stove are anchored to the wall for safety. Extra outlets and charging ports are provided at all bedsides. The first floor bedrooms have 32-inch smart TVs, with Roku remotes and free access to the first seven apps. The large first floor bedroom has a glider rocker with ottoman, and enough space to set up a portable crib. A portable Graco Pack 'N Play is stored in the closet.The upstairs bedrooms have dormer windows with armchair rockers, if you want to curl up with a book and a cup of tea, or just relax before bedtime. A library of books, puzzles and games is built into the staircase. The large upstairs bedroom (king bed) has a small oak drop-leaf desk workspace with chair. The other upstairs bedroom (twin beds) has two closets; one doubles as a kids' playhouse, with a Dutch door, toddler chairs and childrens' books. The living room features an extra-long couch, two chairs and a giant Italian leather sectional perfect for lounging, plus ottoman/ coffee tables. Two of the sectional seats offer electric recline to enjoy the 60-inch smart TV with Roku remote and free access to the first 7 apps. There are lots of extra blankets and throw blankets, which you may not even need - with plenty of insulation, the house stays cozy in the winter, cool in the summer.You might get that snug-as-a-bug feeling like you're at grandma's house, only grandma updated - that's the vibe! A retro take on contemporary decor. Hummingbird Cottage is ideal for any family or group looking for a quiet, comfortable stay, that's close to the action, just minutes away from bustling downtown Shipshewana, but off the beaten path.You'll find the comforts of home - extra toothbrushes, hairdryers, extra razors, iron and ironing board, sewing kit, flashlights, extra sunglasses, eyeglass repair kit, nail kit, extra chargers, velvet hangers in all closets, umbrellas, walking stick, scissors and other creature comforts, in case there's a need.Although it has been renovated, the house's character has been preserved. The original white oak and red oak flooring (in every room except the main floor bath and kitchen) has been revived in a natural matte finish that highlights the wood's authenticity. The kitchen features the original cabinets, which have been refreshed with paint and new quartz countertops. The kitchen floor is made of antique barn beams. As with most lake homes, there's no basement. The large back yard with yard light is enclosed with chain link fence, with fire ring, cement patio, corn hole, and views to the wooded area across the street - you might see deer, wild turkeys, or maybe even hear an owl hooting in the woods after dark! The front of the home is also well-lit with yard lights. The cottage is one house over from the water, on Shipshewana Lake, with lake views from many windows. Catch the Pumpkinvine Nature Trail, a short walk up the hill from the cottage, for walking and biking. The trail goes all the way to downtown Shipshe (you'll end up near El Zorrito Restaurant). It runs about 30 miles, from Shipshewana, west to Middlebury, ending in Goshen. Downtown Shipshe offers canoe, kayak and bike rentals. The downtown area includes shopping, restaurants, the world's largest flea market (Tuesdays and Wednesdays 8-4 pm, May-September), and entertainment at the Blue Gate Theater and Michiana Event Center (MEC). Hummingbird is also convenient to other regional areas of interest; it is 45 minutes from the University of Notre Dame, and a 15 minute drive from Northridge High School and downtown Middlebury, with tourist sites of its own. A couple of things to note: You will see orange parking cones out front - this is to reserve the parking space for guests of Hummingbird Cottage. The address of the house, 2840 North 900 West, Shipshewana, takes you to the back of the property, where the garage is, which can be confusing. No idea why the address brings you to the back of the house! Up to four cars may park in the driveway in back (on 900), and up to 2 in the front of the house (on 905). The front of the house actually faces North 905 West. Guests are welcome to park in the back but should walk around to the front door to enter the house via the keypad. The area is popular with birdwatchers, where you might see blue herons, cormorants, grebes, swans, geese, woodpeckers and flickers, song birds, redwing blackbirds, cardinals and more, and even bald eagles, if you're lucky!Shipshe Lake is a fishing and boating lake - people don't typically swim. Relax at this timeless and tranquil cottage, 10 paces from the lake, a short walk from the Pumpkinvine Nature Trail, off the beaten path but close and convenient to the action. As soon you walk in the door, you can feel the solace of this house's old bones, even thought it's been lovingly updated with all the best amenities. Shipshewana Lake is a 202 acre no-wake fishing lake known for bluegill and crappe. Bring your pole, pull up a chair and fish from the pier or the shore. THERE IS NO HOT TUB. This cozy cottage has everything you need to comfortably sleep 6 guests, or 7 if someone takes the couch. The house was “built” in 1900 as a summer fishing shack, and consisted of four walls, a roof and a floor. It wasn't “finished” until 2016, so it’s basically new construction, including a new foundation that's 16 inches higher than the original. Modern setbacks dictate that you build your house at least 40 feet from the lake, but since the house predates those rules, it’s about 10 feet from the lake. It is well-insulated and virtually soundproof, and has central air and a high-efficiency furnace. There's a water softener and a reverse-osmosis drinking water system.The roomy bathroom has a generous marble-top vanity, glass shower, tub and plenty of oversized plush towels.The kitchen features microwave, disposal, pull-down sprayer faucet, gas stove, full size refrigerator, ample cabinet space and granite countertops. There’s a keurig and a drip coffee maker. The large bedroom off the living area features a queen bed, dresser and large closet. The bunk room has an IKEA bunk bed which is bolted to the wall, a dresser and a closet. All dressers and the stove are fastened to the wall for safety. There are cordless blinds throughout the house, also for safety.The bedroom facing the lake features a queen Murphy bed. This room doubles as a front sitting room with chair and loveseat. Remove the love seat cushions and fold down the Murphy bed. There is also a closet in this room, along with a small fold-down desk. The living room features a comfy couch, leather rocker and small lounger couch that folds out. There is free wifi, a TV, DVD player, and a selection of DVDs, puzzles and games. A 20-foot deck spans the width of the house facing the lake, and there’s a fire pit in the lawn next to the lake. Bluegill and crappe are found close to shore. Wild turkeys and deer are known to frequent the area, which is popular with birdwatchers. There are blue herons, sand hill cranes, cormorants, grebes, swans, geese, red wing blackbirds, woodpeckers, songbirds of all sorts, catbirds, and if you're lucky, you may see a bald eagle circling over head. Enjoy an evening by the shore, watching the water and the fireflies, and possibly hearing an owl hooting in the woods across the street. Was this house ever really an ice house, used to store blocks of ice cut from the lake, before the refrigerator was invented? Many locals stopped to ask this question when we were renovating it in 2016. "Was this the old ice house?" Although it old enough to have been an ice house, there's no evidence that it ever was. But the nickname stuck anyway! Traveling to the area with a party of 14? Considering booking the Ice House and Hummingbird Cottage, which is one house over. 2024 Update: the lake is having issues with weeds this year. It is being treated, but it's not a quick fix. Kayaks are still available, and you might be able to get them out to the clear part of the lake. Stay comfortably in Shipshewana at this 6-bedroom, newly built Spring 2024 home. Our fabulous property offers plenty of space for guests to relax and unwind. Start by entering this home with no contact pin code entry. You will enjoy a very open concept floor plan. We aim for a WOW factor in cleanliness! If you don't just want to sit around you can shoot a game of pool on a slate top table, play a game of foosball, or get involved with a game of ping pong. Enjoy the convenience of more amenities like Hot Tub, AC/heat, 2 sets washers/dryers, WiFi, gas grill, hair dryer and an iron. The 3 bathrooms are equipped with a bathtub, towels, soaps, and hair dryer. The Master Bath even has a jetted bathtub with television and a large walk in shower for a truly amazing experience. Another awesome item you will enjoy is the whole home sound/audio system! That's right, play your favorite music via blue tooth to almost any room in the house. There is also many flat screen modern tv's throughout the house including an 85" big screen set up in the basement as a living room/theater. You can enjoy You Tube TV, Prime Video, Peacock, plus Roku channels. If it happens to be hot or cold while you stay here. No Problem, you can enjoy parking in a very large 2 car garage to get out of the elements. This large garage also has heat/cool for your comfort. For a relaxing morning or evening you will have the option of sitting out on a large, open, second story deck to enjoy your coffee. For the coffee, you are more than welcome to get this at the installed beautiful coffee bar. Deer frequent this back yard that is surrounded by woods so keep your eyes open for that as well! Many attractions are close to this property. The Blue Gate Theater is 1.7 miles, the World famous Shipshewana Flea Market is 1.7 miles, the MEC convention center is 1.9 miles. and Menno-Hof is 1.8 miles. You may be staying here for Notre Dame University which is 41 miles and mostly interstate/toll road if you need to get there faster. Make your get-away one for the books with a stay at our place. Swim, kayak, or just enjoy your view on this quiet 61 acre “No Wake” lake. Spend the day floating or kayaking down the beautiful Pigeon River and end up at your own home away from home! Enjoy mother nature with sightings of eagles, osprey, deer, otters, turkeys, beavers and more!If Fishing is your thing, Pigeon River is stocked with trout each spring. Small mouth, largemouth, walleye, northern pike, channel catfish, crappies, bluegills and others are all possibilities!After an enjoyable day on the water you can take a short drive to an area restaurant to grab a bite to eat. There are several within 5-10 minutes in all directions. Or choose to cook in our fully equipped kitchen or even make yourself some smash burgers on the provided Blackstone Griddle. Afterwards, relax on the spacious lakeside deck or enjoy a campfire around the fire pit…..the S’more the better!!For a rainy day or if the water isn’t your thing, Shipshewana is just 15 minutes away (a tourist town full of Amish heritage, shopping, restaurants, flea market, and concerts) South Bend and the University of Notre Dame are just 50 minutes to the West and Kalamazoo is just 50 minutes to the North.The Space:This 2 bedroom, 1 bath cottage is the perfect place to relax and unwind. The living Room has a big comfy couch to relax as you take in a movie night on our 65 in TV and also pulls out into a large twin/double bed. Enjoy free WIFI with our high speed internet and log in to one of your favorite streaming services. We also have an antenna that picks up local stations.You'll want to spend as much time on the spacious deck as possible! Bring your fishing pole & fish from two docks, grill your dinner on our Blackstone Griddle & eat outside while you take in the view, then roast s'mores over the fire as you take in the evening sounds of life at the lake.We supply a limited amount of toilet paper, paper towels, trash bags and laundry detergent. We encourage bringing or purchasing additional supplies if you anticipate needing more.We have 3 kayaks available for use! You are welcome to bring your own boat to dock at our pier.
