This place makes me wish there was an option for six stars. I study Asian art for a living, and I travelled to Jianyang to visit the home of Jian ware, classic tea bowls of the Song dynasty (960 to 1279 CE), distinguished by their black and brown glazes. Over the last few decades, firing Jian ware in the Song tradition has been revived in the area. I chose Nanping Colourful Village Homestay because it was in Jianyang, affordable, and accepted international guests. What I found was a luxury resort with all the warmth and personal attention of a homestay. I asked the front desk about an excavated Song kiln site in a nearby village, and the receptionist brought me the manager, who arranged for someone to take me the next day. My driver was Ms. Huang, an employee of the resort whose job involves buying and selling contemporary pieces. She knew everything about Jian ware! The kiln site isn’t run as a tourist site, so I was only able to view it because Ms. Huang arranged for it to be opened for me. I had told them I was vegetarian, so for lunch they took me to lunch at a vegetarian buffet. Then we visited the town’s Jian ware museum, where they have exhibits on the history of tea and Jian ware, historical pieces, and the work of contemporary Jianyang potters. To my delight, Mr. Gao, the potter-in-residence at the resort, uses a Song-style wood-fired dragon kiln, built right on the grounds! His pieces that range from beautiful but quite affordable to exquisite and appropriately expensive. They include both iridescent silvery oil spot and orange-to-black hare’s fur pieces. I am still thrilled that I was able to purchase wood-fired pieces on my limited budget. For dinner, the resort’s restaurant prepared vegetarian versions of Fujian cuisine for me. The food was all delicious, featuring classic Fujianese mountain ingredients like local bamboo and mushrooms. Then we visited Mr. Gao’s dragon kiln, and later his studio, where he experiments with different local clays and glaze recipes. The rich colours and iridescence of Jian ware are the result of the iron-rich local material fired at high temperature, and the results are as unpredictable as they are beautiful. The next day, they drove me to Mr. Chen’s family tea plantation in the mountains, where they grow famous northern Fujian teas. These fine teas were all wonderful, smooth and rich with a touch of smoke, and sometimes fruity in flavour. We strolled through mountainsides of tea bushes and visited groves of centuries-old tea trees. This is a perfect place for an immersive experience in China that is also very comfortable and convenient. I often find tourist experiences in China claustrophobic due to the press of people, but the resort was spacious and airy, and they took me to places where there was no one else but us and the occasional local going about their business. Everyone was very patient with my limited Chinese language skills. They were also happy to work with translator apps on our phones, so if you don’t speak any Chinese, you will be fine. This would be a great place to come as a family. There are gardens and rides for kids right next to the resort. You can learn how to whip Song-style tea and carve your name into the base of your own Jian ware cup. Not far away is a historical theme park with a collection of real architecture from the Ming (1368 to 1644 CE) and Qing (1636 to 1912 CE) dynasties. The employees wear period dress and there are performances and activities. Nearby there are hiking trails, historical sites, and lovely villages to visit. It’s also very close to Wuyi Mountain National Park, so it would be a perfect place to stay if the mountains are your destination. If you ask, they could arrange for you to visit famous sites or take you to breathtaking places that only locals know, whatever you want. They can also arrange transport to and from the train station or airport.

I can’t say enough good things about my stay at this incredible homestay on Dongshan Island—it’s hands down one of the best accommodation experiences I’ve ever had, and I’m already counting down the days until I can come back. From the breathtaking sea views to the thoughtful, attentive service, every single detail made my trip unforgettable, and I’m so glad I chose this homestay for my island getaway. First and foremost, the seaview here is absolutely stunning, beyond anything I could have imagined. The homestay boasts an unbeatable location with unobstructed views of the endless blue sea, and I spent every spare moment just admiring the ocean, both morning and night. Waking up early to watch the soft golden sunrise glisten over the water, with gentle waves lapping against the shore, was the most peaceful way to start each day. As the sun set, the sky painted itself in warm hues of orange and pink, reflecting beautifully on the sea, creating a romantic and serene scene that took my breath away. Even at night, the quiet glow of the moon on the water and the soft sound of waves made the view just as magical. I took countless beautiful photos during my stay, and every snapshot perfectly captures the mesmerizing beauty of this place—no filter could ever do the real scenery justice. What surprised me most is that the homestay is even more beautiful in person than the online photos. When I booked the room online, the pictures looked lovely, but I didn’t expect the actual space to exceed my expectations by such a large margin. The interior is cozy, clean, and tastefully decorated, with large windows that frame the sea like a living painting. Every corner of the homestay is well-maintained, with a warm and welcoming atmosphere that makes you feel right at home. The layout is designed to maximize the seaview, so no matter where you are—whether it’s the bedroom, the living area, or the small terrace—you can always feast your eyes on the gorgeous ocean scenery. It’s clear that the host put a lot of love and care into creating this wonderful space. The service here is incredibly thoughtful and attentive, which made my stay even more enjoyable. The host and all the staff are friendly, warm, and always ready to help with any needs or questions I had. They were quick to respond to messages, offered useful tips for exploring Dongshan Island, and went out of their way to make sure I had a comfortable and pleasant stay. Nothing was too much trouble for them, and their genuine hospitality made me feel valued and cared for throughout my trip. Unlike many other accommodations where service feels impersonal, this homestay’s service is heartfelt and dedicated, adding an extra layer of warmth to the entire experience. I’ve traveled to many coastal destinations, but this homestay on Dongshan Island stands out as a true gem. The combination of picture-perfect sea views, stunning in-person beauty, and top-notch, thoughtful service is simply unbeatable. I left with so many wonderful memories and a heart full of joy, and I will definitely come back again and stay here on my next visit to Dongshan Island. I highly recommend this homestay to anyone planning a trip to Dongshan Island, whether you’re traveling alone, with a partner, or with friends. 복도에서 풍기는 차 향이 너무 좋았고, 세심한 디자인이 돋보였습니다! 이곳에 머무는 동안, 서비스에서 느껴지는 자연스러운 친절함이 가장 인상 깊었습니다. 직원들의 부드러운 말투와 집중하는 눈빛은 제가 진심으로 경청 받고 있다는 느낌을 주었습니다. 무료 주차장이 바로 옆에 있어 출입이 편리하고, 밤에도 조명이 충분했습니다. 객실 위생은 완벽하게 관리되어 있었고, 침구에서는 햇살 같은 상쾌함이 느껴졌으며, 욕실은 건조하고 냄새가 없었습니다. 서비스와 청결이 함께 편안한 분위기를 만들어냈고, 과도한 친절함에 대한 부담 없이 딱 알맞은 따뜻함만이 있어 머무는 내내 매우 편안했습니다.

The hotel is located fairly centrally in the island of Pingtan in a small village. Its exterior is nicely decorated with lights, and if you arrive late at night like we did, you’ll thank for that, as it shines like a beacon in a otherwise not very well lit street. The service shone from the beginning. One of the staff was ready to help us with our luggage and show us in, and there was no delay with the registration of my passport (something that as any foreigner that has travelled in the Chinese Mainland will be able to tell, is not something to take for granted), and was immediately added to WeChat, where through the entire trip I was kept updated on everything relevant to us as guests, from the time breakfast was ready, to the fact that a guest with a dog was going to stay in a room next to ours (to which they offered to change if we needed in case any of us was scared or allergic to dogs). Breakfast was always kept warm for us, even when we were coming down late and were not expecting it to be there, and in general the staff’s attitude was always what you would expect in a bigger, more established (and more expensive) hotel, but with a home-stay twist. The hotel is not very close to any scenic spot or touristic destination, but they offer a service of e-bike rental that we used through the trip, and that we’d recommend to anybody is staying here as it took transportation off the list of things we had to think about, and allowed us to fully take advantage of the central location of the inn. With 2 people per bike, going very far North, or South to the city (sometimes both in one trip), we never ran too close to empty our batteries. The room was clean, big enough, and as we were staying on the last floor and our door opened to a patio, very well ventilated. The patio also proved to be a nice place to sit and chill or eat, and I was able to make work I had to finish feel less of a sore in the middle of my holidays. The only things I’d add or change to the room experience are a place to hang clothes (there wasn’t any closet or the sort), the toilet paper (they offered tissues but they don’t feel the same when you want to, you know, keep your hands clean), and real towels (they offer disposable towels, but they’re just not the same). In conclusion, not only I would come back but I most certainly will, as I had an amazing trip and this inn played no small part in it. Would 100% recommend if you like less noisy, more home stay-ey atmosphere, and don’t mind to be a few minutes drive from the city.

이번 여행에서 가장 잘한 결정은 힐 씨뷰 B&B를 예약한 것이었어요. 미니멀하고 탁 트인 디자인에 과도한 장식이 없어 바다 전망이 객실의 중심을 이루었죠. 아침에는 소파에 앉아 커피 한 잔을 마시며 어선들이 출항하는 모습을 볼 수 있었고, 저녁에는 테라스에서 바닷바람을 맞으며 바다를 주황빛으로 물들이는 석양을 감상할 수 있었어요. 깨끗한 침구, 고급스러운 세면도구, 일회용 변기 커버까지 세심한 배려가 돋보였습니다. 주인분은 친절하고 부담스럽지 않게 응대해 주셨고, 질문에도 바로바로 답해주셨어요. 로맨틱한 휴가든 혼자만의 여행이든, 힐 씨뷰 B&B는 최고의 선택입니다. 바다를 사랑하는 모든 분께 강력 추천드려요. 여행 사진 촬영(40분 촬영 및 전문적으로 보정된 디지털 사진 3장 포함): 정말 가성비 최고입니다!

로비 관리 아주머니께서 너무나 친절하고 따뜻하게 대해주셔서 샤먼에 대한 첫인상이 매우 좋고 편했습니다. 수건도 일회용이라 깔끔하고 이불도 포근하니 잘 잤습니다. 물도 많이 챙겨주시고 필요한 거 없냐고 계속 챙겨주시고 감사합니다. 피자 데우는 것도 전자렌지 쓰는 법까지 알려주셨어요..너무나 감동입니다 샤먼 사람들 너무 친절해요.. 숙소 바로앞에 루이싱커피도 있어서 아침에 알리페이로 미리 시켜두고 나가면서 테이크아웃할 수 있으니 편했어요. 처음에 건물 찾는 것을 헤멜 수 있는데 일단 머큐어호텔로 택시 목적지 설정 후, B동 왼편 출입구 찾아서 안으로 들어가면 7,8번 엘리베이터 나옵니다.여기서 20층으로가면 로비가 바로 위치해 있습니다. 머큐어 호텔 정문을 찾으셔야하는데 정문이 큰 길쪽에 있지않고 뒷편 주차장쪽에 위치해있습니다. 택시를 타고가면 기사님들께서 정문에 잘 데려다주시지만, 도보로 이동하실 경우 건물 뒤 주차장쪽으로 가보세요 B동 금방 나옵니다. 8시장 근처고 바로 앞이 큰 길이라 이동하기도 수월합니다. 잘 묵었다 갑니다.

숙소 위치가 정말 최고였어요! 문을 나서면 바로 큰 물레방아랑 개울이 있고, 창문을 열면 오래된 반얀나무와 기와지붕이 보여요. 방은 깨끗하고 우아했고, 나무 가구들이 선(禪)적인 분위기를 더했어요. 사장님은 친절하고 다정하셨는데, 현지인만 아는 숨겨진 여행 코스도 알려주시고, 신선하고 맛있는 객가 요리도 제공해주셨어요. 짐도 들어주시고 따뜻한 차도 챙겨주셔서, 시끄러운 곳에서도 평화롭게 쉴 수 있어서 정말 좋았어요. 윈수이야오 여행의 보물 같은 숙소입니다~

I rarely say this on my reviews, but I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at this Minsu. When I come back to Quanzhou for another family holiday, I will book this place again. Firstly, the location: It is unbeatable. It is near enough to be in the midst of the action in Quanzhou (near the walking street, eateries, restaurants, shopping etc etc), yet very quiet for us to enjoy a good night’s rest, or a good conversation at night over tea. Second, the nice balance between an authentic cultural home and modernism. We had the entire Minsu to ourselves, 6 rooms in total. Renovated about 3-4 years ago, the Minsu gave us the experience of living in an authentic Chinese inn, yet the amenities were modern….comfortable beds, modern toilets, refrigerators available etc….The courtyards were also beautiful. The entire Minsu was tastefully done…..plus it was spotlessly clean. Thirdly, the owners. They were so friendly and helpful. They met us at the drop off point, and brought us to the Minsu when we checked in, helping to move some of our luggages (and they did the same thing when we checked out). They went out of their way to help purchase traditional puppet show (木偶) tickets (at a small discount somemore). After we checked out, my son left his hoodie in the room. The owners assisted to courier the jacket to the next city we were heading to (we were already in the train at that time). And lastly, every morning and every night, either Mr Du, his son or his daughter in law would invite us to join them for tea. They would then proceed to serve tea the traditional way, while having a conversation with us. They also taught us certain traditions, protocols and rules when serving tea. They have a cat called TangYuan (汤圆), in which the kids in the family enjoyed playing with. The only thing to note is that public transport (via taxis and buses) only can drop you off at a spot about 5min walk away. Also, they provide disposable towels, not the regular towels given at hotels. If it is an issue, just bring your own towels. Otherwise, this place deserves 5 out of 5 stars.
