San Francisco Museum of Modern Art is not as famous as New York, but if Van Gogh's stars are removed, neither the museum itself nor its collections are worse than New York's. Museum tickets cost $33 (including a special exhibition). On the ground floor are shops and rest areas, as well as cloakrooms, where things can be deposited free of charge. The entrance is on the second floor. After checking the tickets, you can either take a direct elevator to the 7th floor or take the stairs. You can walk up the stairs one by one. San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Art Exhibition on the second and seventh floors, works are not easy to understand, but its architectural style is very unique, that large cylindrical zebra-pattern skylight, the light shining from the roof to the ground floor, the terrace on the third floor is a wall of life, covered by various vines, swords and ferns, like forest vegetation, this green wall high ground separates the outside world, and The big terrace on the fifth floor is connected with the cafe, which is a good place for leisure.
One of the foremost modern art museums in the United States, SF MoMA is recognized internationally for its commitment to preserving and displaying 20th century art. From Matisse to Magritte and Rothko to Picasso, the who's who of the modernist art movement are a part of their 27,000 piece collection. The photography and sculpture exhibits are also quite impressive, as is the never-ending array of special events and guest exhibits. When you're done, grab a cup of Blue Bottle Coffee from the bar upstairs and enjoy it in the outdoor sculpture garden.
The SF MoMA is the second largest art museum in America and some would argue it has the best collection. They are expanding the museum to accomodiate all the art they have. Currently the Gertrude Stein and family collection is there. It took 10 years for this to come together because they pieces are all over the world and some are owned by private collectors. I've been to a party on the roof top which is an amazing area with spectacular views. This is a definite stop if you are visiting SF.
We were a little rushed that day and came here with one hour to spare before closing. I really wish I had more time to spend here, it is one of the best MoMA I have ever been. We were welcomed with the calligraphy style drapes hanging in the cylindrical part of the MoMA grants it an antiquated art style. Many of the exhibits are fascinating and combines technology with art, all done with an interactive element. The SF MoMA really accomplished the feel of artistic immersion perfectly.
Really inspiring place not only for all the amazing art you will see there but the place itself - building, store, etc - is also really beautiful. They also have same discounts and even free days to allow everyone to go there, so if you are planning to go, check their website for Thursdays evenings discount and first Tuesday of the month free deals. Give yourself a couple hours to explore the place and observe the details around you, it is really worth it.
