Knoxville was once a bustling town but suffered hardship when the train station moved to close by Brunswick. Some of the hardship is still evident in the area. The whole Harpers Ferry area is one of the fastest growing areas with Knoxville in particular burgeoning. The area has loads to offer with hiking, biking, tubing, rafting and kayaking or just taking a scenic walk on the tow path. There are vineyards and breweries close by and a few different venues with live music with great views of the river.The upper level of the property features a large open concept primary bedroom with a Queen size bed ,walk in closet and access to the upper balcony. Between the house and the winery is a wooded area which you also will have private access to and includes a picnic area and a fire pit with chairs. Otherwise, there are plenty of local companies where you can tube, kayak, and more and they provide shuttle services back to the put in. There are options both in Antietam Creek and the Potomac River.Kitchen & Dining Room - There is a large kitchen with plenty of cabinet and counter space, including a brand-new kitchen bar with three bar stools. Dish sets and silverware are included for at least six people as well as pots, pans, ovenware, knives, cutting boards, and cooking utensils. The kitchen is complete with all standard appliances including a dishwasher, microwave, stove/oven, and refrigerator with freezer. The coffee station is a Keurig machine with complimentary k-cup coffee, cream, and sugar. The dining area provides an additional four chairs around a large dining table.Living Room & Laundry - A perfect space for relaxing, socializing, or watching a movie on the flat screen. Open the closet in the entryway to find brooms/mops/cleaning supplies and the brand-new washer and dryer. We are striving to reduce our environmental impact by restoring an American meadow and increasing the number of native plants that can be admired on our grounds. You are likely to see and hear numerous types of birds, insects, frogs, and perhaps even some animals and reptiles indigenous to the Potomac area. Local lore is this was the home of a canal lock keeper or the gate house keeper. For history buffs, there was a small skirmish when Lee’s army attempted to cross dam. THIS IS NOT A PARTY HOUSE, OWNER ON SITE IN GARAGE APARTMENT.The house is a historic house built in 1841 and remodeled sometime in the early 1900's. Please be aware, the steps up to the front door and the basement steps are a little steep. THE FIREPLACE IS NOT TO BE USED, its not in working condition.FYI - this house is not a Canal Quarters lockhouse operated by the C & O Canal Trust, it is privately owned.Cell service can be sketchy down here at the river, all depends on your carrier/weather conditions, etc. I have no issues, but if you do, wi-if calling and text works. And the internet works great! Roku for tv. You will need to use your own passwords for Netflix, YouTube, etc. FYI FOR TIMID DRIVERS : The house is high on a hill above the river, one side of the driveway has a steep drop off down to the road. The driveway is tight, but there is room for 4 cars, you will need to make 3 point turns in order to turn around. We also have access to a local farm if you wish to stable your horses to ride along the canal or battlefield , I can put you in touch with them to discuss fees. They will allow you to park your trailer at the farm. (you need permission/permit for the battlefield)Public boat ramp a few miles farther down the road. Because of steep/tight driveway, there is no room for boat/jet ski trailers.
