Hotell Fängelset Västervik

We experienced this hotel as a very special place, mainly for two reasons. 1.) It is obvious that their staff loves to be a good host and take very well care about you , from dust till dawn. 2.) Well, it is a place with history and certainly a special character, it is not everyday that you can sleep in a jail (hopefully😀 ).

Fun experience with a nice location close to the centre. Great place to park the car and close to a charging station as well. We booked a large double room but I am sure that any kid would love to try sleeping in a cell. Interesting to view the “museum” part of the prison. Staff is super friendly and helpful. Wish the owners Good luck. They work really hard to make you feel welcome. Breakfast buffet is OK without anything missing.

We picked this place to stay primarily because it was an old jail. I think the experience differs widely depending on the room you select, ie: with a bathroom or not. We had a room with a bathroom and the set up was so "fun" with the one cell completely taken up by the bed and the bathroom in the adjoining half cell. The thick walls and iron doors and big locks are all there from the time it was a jail and there is a lot of prison information signs and pictures on the walls for effect. The included breakfast was quite nice with a good variety of items and everything fresh. We did have a little bit of a problem with our check-in. We knew we were arriving late, after their posted check-in time, and had told the hotel that. We expected to receive check-in instructions well before our arrival date, but we had not received anything and it was the day of our arrival. We tried to call them for most of the morning before our arrival and we could never get through. We contacted **********, who also tried to contact the hotel and they spent almost 30 minutes before finally finding a different number to use. Once we got in touch with the front desk person, we did get a text with the instructions for late check-in, but it was quite a bit of stress trying to get information that should have been sent without us having to track it down.

We kwamen 1 nachtje slapen met de hond. Bij binnenkomst werden wij vriendelijk ontvangen door de dame achter de balie. Omdat we de hond mee hadden kregen we een kamer op de begane grond nr 10. Toen we de gang in liepen viel ons meteen op dat er klussersbezig waren en dat het erg naar verf stonk. In de kamer stond een tweepersoons bed met ruime badkamer. De bedden waren erg goed. Echter bleek dat er boven ons een gezin met een kind zat dat de hele tijd heen en weer rende en sprong boven onze kamer. Omdat het pand erg gehorig is was dit niet te doen. Mijn vriend heeft dit aangegeven bij de eigenaar. Hij zou er iets van zeggen. Na ongeveer 20 minuten werd het geluid minder. De volgende ochtend om 5.56 uur werden we opnieuw verrast door hard gebonk, geren en gespring. We hebben dit wederom opnieuw aangegeven bij de eigenaar. Er werd ons aangeboden om langer te blijven zodat we extra konden uitrusten. Dit leek ons geen goed plan. We waren immers op doorreis en hebben hier dan ook geen gebruik van gemaakt. De bedden en het ontbijt waren erg goed. Toch zou ik niemand aanraden om hier te overnachten. Het idee is leuk maar een gevangenis is hier niet voor gemaakt. De prijs vonden wij het niet waard. Wij komen hier nooit meer terug!
