I booked our stay here based on the many positive reviews but I’m sorry to report that my review will not be so positive. We checked in before our room was ready, which had been agreed by email because we would not actually be using the hotel until after dark so wanted to make the check in process easier for both us and reception staff. The hotel looks lovely from the outside with a lovely Christmas tree and nice decorations inside. However the festivity stopped there. As we arrived on boxing day it would have been nice to have been asked about our Christmas or even if our journey had been nice, but no niceties at all. Just quite a cold welcome. This was the same “cold welcome” from another reception lady, in the early evening when we actually waited at reception for over 5 minutes before being attended to, despite several members of staff passing us and our luggage. Once checked in we were personally shown to our room, which was overlooking the courtyard/garden: this was a nice touch. After 10 minutes or so I realised that the bedding was feathers which I am severely allergic to (and had requested via the booking platform I used to have hypoallergenic bedding), so I went back to reception to ask if the bedding could be changed. As I waited at reception, I saw the lady who had shown us to our room heading towards me down the corridor, so I approached her to tell her of the bedding problem. Without a word, she went back to the reception desk and began typing something. As she didn’t tell me what she was doing, I presumed she was looking for another room with non feather bedding, but it turned out that she was checking my booking for my request which she said she could not see. Making me feel very much to blame for a simple error. I asked if she did have any alternative bedding, which she did have and followed me back to my room where we changed the bed together. I was appreciative and said I was sure that I had put in the request and apologised for any inconvenience this had caused. We stayed here for 2 nights and other than breakfast, had no interaction with any members of staff. Each time we entered the hotel, where the main door faces the reception, no one looks up to greet you. In fact it feels like they do their best not to interact with the guests. it feels very rude and cold. The first morning I ordered the poached eggs on smashed avocado on toast. The eggs had barely been poached and were almost completely raw, snotty and cold (my son’s breakfast was quite cold too and I think this is because the kitchen appears to be the other end of the hotel so possibly sits waiting for staff to collect it for some time), so I had to leave the eggs on the plate. When the waitress cleared the table she looked at my plate with a look of disgust that I had not eaten the eggs. I, again, apologised, stating that they were so undercooked. She said “oh sorry” and took the plate away. Based on the fact that I had only eaten one slice of toast with avocado, I
