The PA and I arrived at this hotel very late in the evening and check in was an absolute breeze. Little did we know we were for an interesting few nights. After the debacle of the PA writing off my wardrobe in Glasgow, I insisted he unpack my bags before he was allowed to go anywhere near the bed; quite the task given it’s a 15 piece matching set of Louis Vuitton luggage. After switching off the lights the room was still as bright as the Blackpool illuminations, no way I was going to be able to sleep in that so I got the PA to place his body and clothing to block all disturbances. This worked perfectly until the inconsiderate workmen in the street decided to begin work, it must have been 3am; they seemed to have opened up a sewer as the stench was absolutely overwhelming, I was close to vomiting. The bed was a double made up of two single beds, as a result this meant I’d have to share with the PA; this resulted in a fake 90/10 split of the bed space. To be fair once you get used to the smell of sewage, the bright lights and the sound of workmen drilling the actual sleep quality is perfect. The following evening I noticed the workmen started even earlier and given the sound of commotion they seemed to be having issues; feeling helpful I offered them the PA’s assistance so he spent a night shift with them. This meant he was incredibly tired for our tour to Bethlehem. A major plus for this hotel is the access to demitasse making facilities in the antechamber, a lot of people seemed to be struggling to use it so I can only assume their PA’s were also catching up on sleep after doing a night shift with the workmen. I enjoyed my stay here and would definitely come back next time I’m in Israel, the only thing that would take the hotel to a different level is installing an natatorium.
