Casa Gallina - An Artisan Inn

How do you describe perfection? Our extended family came to Casa Gallina to celebrate my husband’s milestone birthday and we are still in awe of the magic we experienced in Taos. Thanks go to Richard who made this visit so memorable with his consideration and kindness. And for helping us keep our surprise alive! From the moment we arrived until our departure ( which came too soon), we enjoyed the magic of Casa Gallina. Our group had three casitas and each was charming in its own special way. I would be remiss if I did not mention the girls too. The chickens gifted us with fresh eggs and we showed our appreciation by sharing all our leftovers. From the roosters crowing in the morning to the Milky Way at night, we felt gifted by the nature surrounding us in this special place. And while it is good to be home, we look forward to another visit to Casa Gallina.

Two important elements for the perfect guesthouse experience once the beautiful environment of Taos is established: 1) decor, both funky & fun, with bedding to nestled into for easy sleep and nestled dreams, and 2) a host who bakes something for your morning coffee (half and half in the fridg), smooths any wrinkles, hugs (if you want a hug), who is there when you need him and not there to provide perfect privacy for your retreat. Both are 100% true here.

It doesn’t get any sweeter than taking refuge and respite at Casa Gallina! The “Girls” (hens) welcome you, Richard spoils you (fresh baked treats arrived daily!) and the BEAUTIFUL surrounding—inside and out—soothe your soul! I have been blessed to call enchanted Taos home, but never have I so enjoyed the experience of being nestled in Zen joy and comfort like during our first and recent Casa Gallina stay. Honestly, I’m not sure my daughter will ever want to stay anywhere else when we journey home! ♥️

This is our second stay at Casa Gallina, and it once again made me wish we could stay forever! The casitas are absolutely beautiful, and the setting is so peaceful. Richard is an amazingly kind and thoughtful host, and "the girls" are so fun and make it even more of a unique experience.

I have lost count on the number of times we have stayed at Casa Gallina....at least a dozen or more. Each time, we still feel like it is coming HOME. Every feature provides a welcome sight....and every sight gives you a peace within. In the past we have introduced Casa Gallina to our grown children and now they call it a second home. From the calming features in each room to the landscaping, to the chickens, to the host, Richard, we treasure each. I especially enjoy having coffee under the weeping willow tree in front or having coffee by the dining table with views of the yard and property. Each of our visits has allowed us to meet others on the same search for a peacful place and they all rave about their great trips here.

We spent a beautiful four days at Casa Gallina last summer and this review is long overdue. I'm not exaggerating when I say that I've thought about our family's stay there almost every day for the past nine months and I can't wait to go back someday! Our family of four created many beautiful memories there; our house was well appointed, the decor was inspiring, Richard was the perfect host, and our 5 year old absolutely loved getting to feed the chickens. Casa Gallina was centrally located for everything we wanted to do in and around Taos, including visiting the pueblo and kayaking the Rio Grande. If you're considering a stay in Taos (good choice!) I doubt you could find anywhere better.
