I drove right past the Mar y Mar twice before a friendly van driver showed me exactly where it is. The actual motel is situated down low beneath the main road, on the landward side of the Eastbound road about 5 km from Punterenas; there was an unreadable faded sign above the May y Mar café, and a small sign on the wall of the hotel. Parking space is limited. The Mar y Mar is a two storey building, set below the level of the road – my first floor was roughly at road level (and so quite noisy as it only has single glazed patio doors on that side. The room was narrow (tapering to less than 8 feet wide) but just about fits in a double bed (it was described at the matrimonial suite), in front of a bar table and washbasin, with the toilet/shower in a second room behind. There is not really a choice of places to eat, as the Mar y Mar snackeria is the only place within easy reach. However the food was very well presented and good value; I chose a curried carrot and coconut soup, four taquitos (small tacos) with prawns (and red onion and pineapple), and was given a complimentary banana flambé (which was actually the best dish, by far). There's also an adjacent Mar y Mar mini-mart that sells basics (and cold beer). Breakfast was taken in the snackeria again, and was fine – orange juice, two fried eggs, pinto gallo, a slice of toast with a tiny bit of cheese, and a small bowl of fresh water melon, pineapple and papaya, with a couple of cups of black coffee. The pool is open 8 to 8, and although tiny is very pleasant. The hotel is across the road from a small beach on the Pacific, with a few seats/tables belonging to the hotel.
