Had an absolutely great stay at the Stromabank,Sarah and Graham are new to the island last year they were saying and have taken over the hotel. Just a 15 min drive from Lyness port, 5 min from the village centre and 30 mins from the start of the walk from the Old man of Hoy its perfectly situated to get around. We had a twin room en suite which was perfect for our needs, comfy beds with a stunning view out the window. Sarah cooked all the food fresh, which was extremely tasty and plentiful, the fish and chips was outstanding, home made beer battered haddock! Breakfast again plentiful with good choice. The weather was unbelievable which really makes a trip to the island worthwhile, and when you walk into the dining room and see the view (pic attached) you know you're never going to tire of seeing it.

Small but spotlessly clean hotel with bar and restaurant. Current owners have only been there since November but are finding their feet. Food is plain but plentiful. Our room was small but fine. Hosts were very kind; on returning home we received a letter returning a stray scrabble tile to us which I thought was beyond the call. Worth noting that at the time of writing they are the ONLY place on Hoy/Walls offering food on a Sunday evening so book ahead. Excellent location for exploring Hoy and Walls.

We had a lovely couple of nights staying here. Sarah and Graham very welcoming hosts. Fantastic views from the restaurant and a roaring fire in the bar. A great base to explore a beautiful island. Sarah cooked us a tasty veggie meal one night and the other we ate at Emily's which we can also recommend

We had a lovely cosy stay! Sarah and Graham the owners, were friendly and welcoming. The rooms were cosy and clean with stunning views of hoy island. Nice comfy beds and amenities. Food was super tasty and perfect for warming bellies before and after a day exploring. Highly recommended

We had a wonderful stay at Stromabank. Chris and Jade were eager to meet our smallest fancies which resulted in exquisite food, they were just really friendly and goodhumoured, and we enjoyed our stay to the fullest! I would definately recomend!

On our trips to Orkney, we like to spend at least one night on one of the smaller islands, and this year we chose Hoy. It's a short crossing from Houton to Lyness, but with a population of around 400, it feels a world away - splendid isolation indeed! Hotel options are limited on Hoy and South Walls, but fortunately Chris and Jade at Stromabank are not complacent! Online booking was straightforward and efficient and our welcome was warm and sincere when we arrived. We were delighted with the view from our spotlessly clean room and enjoyed a very tasty evening meal and breakfast. Special mention for the magnificent view across the Pentland Firth from the dining room.

Our room was nicely furnished with a new and comfortable bed, and was nice and warm compared with some places we stayed! The owners were very friendly and did us a nice evening meal. The views from the conservatory dining room are lovely on a sunny evening!

Chris and Jade could not have been more helpful or lovely. Wide choice at breakfast and dinner with a very fully stocked bar. Fantastic cliff walk within 5 minutes from the hotel. Highly recommended!

A really nice family run hotel, they couldn’t do enough for us. The rooms were nice and the beds comfortable, after a couple of blowy days out the super hot showers and friendly atmosphere were a pleasure to come back to. Dinner and breakfast were made to order and very generous, they were also happy to make packed lunches for us to take during the day.
