Starting with the information - we stayed at So City as a young couple (who arent particularly into nightclubs/bars) to see Matla for the first time over a week. I have given this a 'benefit-of-the-doubt' rating due to the hotel being incredibly new. We picked So City Hotel because of the value, it was incredibly well priced. I'd imagine this is a strategy due to it being so new but it was certainly well worth the price we paid. On to the hotel as a whole - I feel this is definitely aimed toward capturing people coming to Malta for some night life. Its positioned so that no more than 10 seconds from leaving the lobby, you can be in a bar, and their are some nice bars surrounding. That said, we werent there for that - but this location also meant that finding an evening meal, or a quick early night drink was incredibly easy. Exploring the island was also very easy from here, Valletta was a very short journey, and as we had opted to rent a car, there was a carpark about 5 minutes walk away (Pengardens) which is reasonably priced for over night parking, and we never struggled for a space. The room was very comfortable, and the mattress was perfect and bedding very soft and comfortable. Our upgraded room was also incredibly spacious. The theming is a nice touch and makes the room a bit more characterful and individual. Staying on the 7th floor, there was minimal noise at night, altough id be concerned if we needed to keep the window open.... The black out curtains were also amazing for keep the room dark for a little bit of extra sleep. Constructive criticism for the room would be: The shower tempurture is difficult - the hottest setting is insanely hot (my other half loves hot showers but this was too much for her also) and it wouldnt go cold, just cooler, it also seemed to get colder through out the shower and you found yourself adjusting. There is not a lot of storage at all for longer stays. This is perhaps a by product of it feeling aimed towards 'nightlifers' who might stop 3 nights or so. I would perhaps ask reception for additional hangers if you have plenty of clothes for a longer stay. The mini fridge, altough useful, is not big enough to put larger water bottles in, which can be annoying. The aircon unit is situated in a place which means it blows directly at the bed. I tried to play with the control but there was no way to adjust it that I could find. Im trying to cool the room, not refridgerate myself. The timer on the aircon also didnt seem to work, so setting it the blow for 30 mins whilst i went to sleep just didnt seem to work. The TV is not a full smartTV which is a shame. Just channels and an internet browser, which are never nice to navigate around.... On to other notes: Breakfast is just what you need. Its not an all out buffett where there is everything you could dream of, but there is more than enough and a few items cycle so you can expect a slightly different breakfast each morning. Abbiamo soggiornato in 3 adulti per 3 notti in camera family. Camera spaziosa, moderna e molto pulita, ma ci sono delle pecche: 1) balconcino molto piccolo affacciato su un micro cortile interno su cui affacciano altri balconcini in modo che ognuno veda nella camera dell’altro, poca privacy! 2) nelle foto della camera sembrava ci fosse il box doccia invece c’è la tendina e in bagno non è presente alcun supporto per appoggiare i propri effetti personali 3) il terzo letto era una poltrona/letto (vedere foto allegate) ed era scomodissimo, molto duro perché non presente un vero materasso. Alla richiesta di poter fare qualcosa, in reception mi hanno detto che non potevano fare nulla, quindi mi sono ritrovata a dormire con dei cuscini sotto al corpo perché il ripiano era troppo duro! Colazione molto varia, ma per noi italiani il caffè non è un granché.

I will start by saying what a great hotel, a great location and the rooftop pool is a great little area. But the hotel staff are useless, We had paid for our trip in advance and paid for breakfast and upgraded to a room with a balcony and a view. I will note that we had 2 bookings 1 for the first night and a booking for the 3 following nights as we changed our travel plans due to flight costs and had a extra day.on arrival at 4pm ( check in is 3pm, we were told our room wasnt ready and we needed to pay, i told tge guy we had paid and had to get proof that i had, we were also told we hadnt booked breakfast or paid the upgrade again i had to find the proof, eventually all was sorted and we finally got into our room Next day we went down for breakfast and were refused entry as we ”hadnt paid” again we had to wait whilst it was checked, to then be allowed in. Later on that day we recieved a call to the room asking if the room was ok and do we need anything, we asked for a littpe milk for tea and within minutes it arrived, 10 minutes later the phone rang again and it was reception saying that we hadnt paid and if we dont go down straight away and pay it we have to leave. Again i had to go down and sort it.. finally all sorted... till departure, we werevthen told we hadnt paid the city tax, and even tho a trainee receotion lad said to the lady he was there when we paid it, she said if its not on the system we pay.. its only a few euros but its incompetence. The room itself is nice, spacious and comfy beds with a fantastic shower. The roof top pool is a great sun trap too.. Breakfast was nice, and lots of choice with real orange juice A good stay but ruined a bit by staff not doing there jobs

We arrived before check in, so we dropped our bags off and had a quick freshen up. First impressions weren’t brilliant, very dirty reception area/toilet due to workmen in the hotel. We went for lunch whilst we waited for the room to be ready. (The location is great) Check in was on time and the room itself was nice and clean. The main issue we faced is that the hotel is half finished, half of it is a literal building site (bare brick/no floors) and if you take the stairs to have to walk through it all. There is one lift, which is used a lot by the work men therefore is filthy and patched up with cardboard and tape. Each morning we were woken up at 7am by extremely loud banging/drilling vibrating the room. So loud that the TV didn’t even mask the sound. I believe no work should start til at least 9am when guests are present. I would imagine once the works are finished it would be a brilliant hotel and good value for money. It’s just a shame we weren’t made aware of this beforehand.

I spent 5 days in hotel due to business visit to Malta. First feeling was-it feels like home, it is very comfortable since room is equipped with everything you need (if anything missing, reception stuff was always helpful). My room was on the 9th floor with a great view, and quite calm. Since I visited in February, I was not lucky to use rooftop pool, but I would be happy to go back since there is a great view from the pool (pool deck was open so you could go and catch some sun). Another plus is that there is laundry service in basement, which I imagine for trips longer than just a few days is very useful. Everything was very clean (they do weekly cleaning which I didn't mind as I read policy in advance), and staff was very nice. Check in was smooth and late check out was possible since room was not booked, that I appreciated greatly due to late flight that day. I found out that currently they are switching between operators for kitchen so unfortunately I didn't get to experience lunch/dinner that was mentioned in previous comments, but I believe this will add so much to their offer from March onwards. You can still order food through Wolt and have it at home (which I found very cozy!), which is a plus compared to classic hotel concept. Location is in Msida, which is more of residential area, which I didn't mind (since I lived in this area some years ago when I was working in Malta) since it's very quite and you can reach the sea by walk. It's very central so by taxi or bus is also quite easy and fast to reach touristy and bars area. Overall great experience and very comfortable. I would recommend.
