Our taxi threaded through the extremely narrow streets to get to the hotel (with mirrors pulled in, in spots there was only 1” clearance!) The hotel occupies two very old, tall and narrow buildings. Our room was on the second floor of the main building. Our first impression of the room was that it was kind of….small. However, it had high ceilings with wood beams that kept it from feeling cramped. The bathroom was a good size with a nice big shower and extra storage shelves. The windows had heavy rustic oak shutters that lent a sense of the history of the building. We checked out the rooftop patio with its honor bar and small plunge pool, which wasn’t filled that day, probably because the weather was just starting to turn warm. Breakfast was ample portions of fresh squeezed juice, coffee, muesli, yogurt, a selection of breads and fresh fruit. Cooked items were available on request. The best part of staying at the Corral del Rey was the very kind and friendly staff, all of whom were always available and ready to answer any questions, help make reservations, etc. We felt truly welcomed by them. The location is easy walking distance to most attractions, and the neighborhood is intimate with lots of restaurants within a 5 minute walk. We could have stayed at a much larger hotel on one of the big boulevards, but we ended up liking the personal experience at the Corral del Rey.
