Higher Trapp Hotel

We stayed here on Saturday night and booked the hot tub package. The reception staff were lovely, friendly and informative. We stayed in the annex which is a short walk from the main hotel. The room was up a few flights of stairs, we booked the twin room which had tea/coffee facility and bathroom with a shower over the bath. Comfortable beds, iron, hairdryer and t.v. We were taken down to the hot tub by one of the staff and given a glass of prosecco each. The hot tub was lovely, it's a stand alone, so it was private. We later walked upto the hotel for the free drinks and they were good quality. A few people had issues with the fact you had to have a mixer with them, but you didn't have to actually drink the mixer. The food was delicious and very reasonably priced, eventhough you get £25 each towards the meal. Breakfast was a buffet style with cereals, toast and crossisnts. Then a choice of cooked breakfast. A Sunday lunch treat at the Higher Trapp. Well not exactly. The place maybe trap by name but nobody would want to be trapped here for long. On arrival the place looked pretty quiet and a bit unkempt, loads of car parking space was a definite plus. On finding an open door we entered Fitzys restaurant, to find a totally empty room, after snooping around we discovered a lady who took us back to the empty, silent, dark, unwelcoming room and found a waitress for us. At this point we were into minds about staying until the waitress said that this was the last Sunday they would be doing lunch due to a lack of customers, the thought of us possibly being the last Sunday lunch guests spurred us on. Tired is too gentle a word for the restaurant room, shabby is probably nearer the e mark, the splendid view of the grounds and countryside beyond helps but doesn’t disguise the torn chairs and worn tables. The drinks arrived fairly pronto, we were the only people there, the waitress then asked if we were dining and on our reply provided menus and trundled off returning shortly with a chef in tow. We decided to keep it simple and went for three small plates with fries. You could almost hear the microwave pinging as the food quickly arrived, Camembert, chilli honey chicken and salmon and prawn arancini with fries, some of it was good, some ok and some not very good. Often in these situations the beer saves the day for me but even though I had a pint of moorhouses, it tasted nearly as flat as the place, which by the way had got lights and music by now. We had a walk through the gardens and a bit of a wander through the rest of the hotel, none of it was as bad as the restaurant room and some parts looked quite ok. Lavender hotels are going to have to spend some big money on this place if it is to come anywhere near its local competition. Alas we won’t be returning for Sunday lunch as I mentioned earlier neither will anybody else and unless there’s some drastic changes to the place we’ll not be returning at all.

Stayed yesterday lovely hotel but very tired in places lovely evening meal and good breakfast bedroom was far to small I will know next time to upgrade great AI stay met some lovely people Hannah I would like to thank she was amazing her attitude to her work was so impressive

Great place , brilliant staff, brilliant food, rooms could do with a little TLC but beds very comfy, We stayed for 1 night to help in celebrating our 45th Wedding Anniversary 27th June. Made so welcome on arrival. We stayed with the all inclusive deal which is well worth it. Service was tremendous, food was really good and plentiful with plenty of choice. We also used the Hot Tub of which is a must. We will deffo be back. Can I just add that the 2 Megan's on reception where very helpful who are a credit to Lavender Hotels Higher Trapp. Also a very big thank you to Max who was brilliant in his work(thanks for getting our drinks and Phone Max) Max is a credit to Lavender Hotels-Higher Trapp, when you have staff like Max and co it makes you want to return of which we will. Finally a final mention to both Callum and Angel(Bar and Food) They worked their socks off and nothing was a problem and always making sure that all was okay with the food and drinks, once again they are also a credit to Lavender Hotels-Higher Trapp. Thank you all so much for making our special day most memorable. Had a lovely one night stay at Higher Trapp. We ate in the restaurant and the food was delicious. All inclusive drinks were fab, lots of variety and generous measures. Staff were brilliant, special mention to Holly, Callum and Hannah. All the staff were fab. We will definitely be back.

Needs a dam good cleaning and decorating. So bad didn't last 30 minutes. Our room was filthy and the manager would of been sacked for not bothering to attend to us. It was meant to be a valentines day for my wife. We drove from Liverpool and had no apologies from the manager. We found dust all over bedside table window ledge. The bath had dirt and scum all around the bath. Found a medical tablet on the floor which shows it was never cleaned the head board was very loose and dirty and the best was the very stained mattress.
