Location is excellent, just a couple of minutes away from the ferry boats to Valletta and a number of good restaurants at a stone throw away. Yet it is quiet and away from the noises. As you are so close to the waterfront, it is a joy to jog or stroll in the early morning or late evening. You can access the roof top through ancient circular staircases for a panoramic view of the city. If you have heavy luggages and weak knees, then it is a challenge to carry it up to the top floor. Breakfast is nice and sufficient, not lavish.

Unsurpassed at every turn, Palazzino Birgu is the most unique place I have ever stayed. Its unassuming facade hides a labyrinth of nooks and crannies, stairways leading to the heavens and an open interior which transports you back over half a millennium. Despite arriving in the early hours, great communication ensured my key was passed to the taxi driver, awaiting my airport arrival - ably arranged by the delightful host Chiara. With just 3 rooms, this is not your typical stay but offers as much as you wish to take and absorb. The rooftop terrace offers panoramic views of Valletta and out to the Mediterranean Sea. The breakfast area would befit a Tudor feast and a whiff of nostalgia could easily send you back to when the lower levels were occupied with equine guests. More of the same please.

A real find. Tucked away behind the Inquisitor’s Palace this tiny B&B dates from the same period, we have never stayed in anything so authentic. Location, attention to detail, quality, friendliness: nothing could be faulted. Birgu is a far better place to stay than Senglea, which is run down or Valletta which just heaves with people. Highly recommended.

Palazzino Birgu is a hidden gem and Chiara is absolutely amazing ! I was there for work alone and they made me feel home with a touch of luxury. I had a very spacious room, with chocolates left on my pillow every day (thank you Phoebe). Breakfast was great, and the common area with the honesty bar felt can be used to rest or work (they have good wifi). Locations is super easy, both for visiting Birgu but also to visit Valletta (1 $ ferry away). If you are looking for a special place, I strongly recommend them.
