Sumatra Cheeky Monkeys

We just wanted to stay 4 days and stayed more than a week. The kids loved that place and the whole fantastic and funny Team. They made my kids feel happy with singing and instrumental Musical and marshmallows in the evening. They cared about us all the time and took some time to food and play around. Also Sarah the owner is great help and very sympathetic woman. An the heart an soul of the place Elli made you feel happy with her smile in the morning. They also offer guided tours to the jungle. A great family.

We loved our stay in Cheeky Monkeys. The staff were all incredibly kind and accommodating, they couldn’t do enough for us. Ellie’s cooking is outstanding and the 4 meals we ate there were delicious, the curry and the ikan pepes were particularly good. The accommodation is as much as you need, clean and fairly spacious. No hot water but this is standard for the guest houses in the area. They made the admin part of our stay very easy, organising shared tourist taxis for us from the airport and to Berestagi which were safe and efficient. Coco was a brilliant guide for our 1 day Orangutan trip which included lunch, about 4kg of fruit and tubing back into town. I’d gladly recommend them for a trekking trip to Bukit Lawang

When we decided to go to Bukit Lawang we found it difficult to choose between Sumatra Orangutan Discovery Villa and Cheeky Monkeys. We decided the first one where we wanted to stay an extra night after a 5-day jungle trekking. That wasn’t possible so we moved to Cheeky, located one minute from Discovery. They apologized, only the budget room with bathroom outside was available. To us no excuse was needed. The room was still cozy and charming with a porch. In the evening we sat till late chatting and laughed with Adi and Sam, nice funny guys with humor and great stories. Although or stay in Cheeky wasn’t planned and short, we felt very welcome and enjoyed to spend time here.

I visited cheeky monkeys with two of my friends for the 3 day jungle trek! I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. They made us feel at home as soon as we arrived and throughout the entire stay there, we were treated like family. Bai and Ade were our trekking guides and they were so helpful the entire journey. They educated us about the history of the jungle in the area, answered any questions we had, and helped us in anyway they could during the trekking. They made it easy and fun for us all! We ended up seeing around 6 orangutans and many other animals along the way. Also, the food at cheeky monkey and along the trek was phenomenal! Special thanks to Magic Man for being the chef along the trek too! After the trekking, we spent a couple nights there to wind down and ended up doing the bat cave with Ade and had a bbq along the river. I can’t say enough about this place, they were the best in every aspect! If you’re looking for an authentic jungle trekking experience then sumatra cheeky monkeys is your place!

Such a fantastic place to stay. The owners, Sarah and her husband, are so lovely and want to ensure you have the most comfortable and relaxing stay. Their daughter Aurel is there sometimes too, who is a funny little chatterbox! The whole team here is fantastic, the trekking guides, the chef (who makes incredible food) and all the other staff are so incredibly friendly and take their time to get to know you. Even though I wasn’t trekking with this company, their guides still made an effort to get to know me which I thought was such a friendly touch. This was especially nice as a solo traveller, as you felt like you had a family everytime you came back home. If I was going to come back to BL, I would 100% stay here as the surroundings of the accommodation are beautiful and all the staff are incredible. Thank you for an amazing stay x

We had a really warm welcome at Cheeky Monkeys. We arrived with the latest bus at ten o 'clock in the evening and there somebody yells our names and picked us up and drives us with our luggages to Cheeky Monkeys. Because we had a long ride we still could get some food and shared a portion of sate ayam and a cold Bintang. During our meal we had a nice chitchat with Sarah, one of the owners, she told us at that moment about the jungle experience that we can get by them guids. We where immediately convinced and booked a 2 days 1 night tour that will starts the next morning. Cheeky Monkeys is a cozy and relaxed place with very nice stuff. The natural environment is beautiful and also relaxing. The jungle tour was our best experience ever! We had really nice and funny guides who told us a lot about the flora and fauna and the animals in the jungle. They guides us to be closed ass possible and the orang utans. They brought amazing food like a lot of fruits and the best nasi goreng so far with them. At the basecamp there was already someone cooking, we made a campfire and played funny games with sticks! They had the best basecamp in stead of the other tourists, quite and peaceful at a beautiful spot at the river. Last but not least we end the trip the next day with tubing back! And that was also so much fun! Definitely stay at Cheeky Monkeys and book a jungle trip.
