Travelodge Ryde Isle of Wight

The hotel is new but room is small. Location is good.

On behalf of my father. While on holiday each day/night we dreaded going back to Ryde Travelodge due to accessibility problems, our 6 night wedding anniversary holiday was ruined”. We found the Travelodge Ryde IOW far from ideal for the elderly and disabled. In front of the Travelodge Ryde IOW there is a very steep gradient making life very difficult for the elderly and disabled who are confined to wheelchairs. Getting out the car where the car is on a steep slope means trying to hold the door open and steadying the leaning wheel chair while lending support to the disabled passenger. Pushing a wheelchair up to the Travelodge is hard work at 70 years of age. Once through the double doors to reception we needed to go through many corridors and 7 doors, the chair could not run smoothly over the raised step into the lift. We were allocated room 212, a disabled room, on the top floor! And this is not ideal in case of fire or other emergency. We found during the stay the keys to be unreliable and in need of constant re programming. There was no storage in the room just a shelf used to store spare Travelodge pillows with hanging space underneath, leaving our bags and cases on the floor where they were a tripping hazard. Regarding parking prior to setting off I contacted Travelodge asking if there were disabled parking places, after six attempts to get a constructive answer I tried to escalate the complaint but was told by Rachael Smith Senior Customer Services Advisor “That I could not do so” while she still could not be bothered finding an answer to this perfectly reasonable question. Travel Lodge Ryde IOW website provides a lists local car parks that you need to pay for. This is confusing when there are a number of council parking spaces in front your property that if you park after 5pm and move before 9 am it is free to park. But be ready for steep walk up to reception either way. There are no dedicated disabled parking spaces but IOW Council allows blue badge holders to park on the islands car parks for 8 hours free of charge. The reception has a print out for Disabled Parking so why could Rachael Smith not send me or ask for it to be emailed to me? But I mentioned earlier she could not be bothered. So if you are not as spritely as you once were please consider what I have mentioned. Travel Lodge Ryde IOW should have put all disabled rooms on the ground floor! The fact that they have not defies all logic to the point of irresponsibility. Elderly and disabled need ease of exit not just in case of and emergency but to make their holiday just that bit better. Every member of staff I spoke to was very helpful and happy to sort any concerns unlike Rachael Smith at customer services. Disability Discrimination Act (Quote) It places a duty on service providers to make reasonable adjus**ents for people with disabilities. These help them to overcome barriers they may face in gaining and remaining accessing and using goods and services.

Stayed at Travelodge in Ryde, clean tidy and even had a bath as well as shower. A little small for larger folk, but we've got a half sized bath ourselves so no problem. Lovely to have the choice. Friendly, helpful staff and good town centre location.Great for using as a base to visit tourist attractions around the island via the bus network. No attached restaurant, but they sell breakfast boxes and lots of nearby cafes open at 8am to provide a range of breakfast foods.

The first appearance I saw of a staff member at this hotel was a woman who was outside smoking, when I arrived up the steep hill she acknowledged me by throwing her cigarette end in to a pile of easily 1000 ciggerette ends that was in the bin area behind a Squeaky gate, during the duration of my Isle of Wight visit I encountered no fewer than 5 occasions in which multiple different staff members were throwing cigarette ends on the floor, when approaching the building the room directly to the right of the reception must be the room the guests are placed in that are unfavorable, directly outside and on the window ledge was a combined total of about 50 cigarette ends which were not cleaned up at all during my visit. As a non smoker I personally see no difference in the staff throwing cigarettes on the floor then emptying a bag of rubbish directly outside the entrance of the hotel. For whatever reason none of the staff seemed phased by the first impression of the building!

Very small room with no space for clothes. It felt like it was just somewhere to sleep and not really enjoy the experience of being in a hotel. The costing is somewhat puzzling as a different amount each night even though the same room??

Good location and staff friendly, professional and helpful. Reception area in Travelodge properties would be better. I don't think I would stay at a Travelodge again when I go with seven friend

Had a lovely four night stay in this Travel Lodge. Room was very comfortable and quiet. We also found the staff were friendly and very helpful. It was a good location for exploring the island by public transport with easy access by bus to Osborne House. (20% off entry price with proof of bus ticket!) Plenty of restaurants and bars within walking distance of hotel. Would recommend this hotel.

This hotel is actually good, I was wary after checking the recent reviews but I found myself pleasantly surprised. The hotel is recently refurbished and it shows, my room was unsullied by previous guests disruptive behaviours or the accidental throw up stains you associate with Travelodges. The only complaint I have which unfortunately drags the score down is the parking situation. Had I known this before I arrived then I would possibly reconsidered this hotel for one with a payable or free car park! Ll
