First a word of warning for first time visitors to Mauritius, whilst beautiful it is also expensive even outside the hotels. So don’t forget to pack the basics or you will pay the price of purchasing anything when you arrive. Taxi fares are also expensive. The hotel. With many years of auditing multi national companies, it is noted that management do respond to any criticism quite aggressively on TripAdvisor. From experience that usually evidences an unwillingness to change things that need changing. Overview The hotel is in the colonial style and attracts much attention from passers by walking along the beach. It reminds me a little of Raffles in Singapore. The rooms are spacious and well maintained with aircon that is not controlled centrally by the hotel which is a big plus. The food is of a very good standard in the Plantation restaurant, but the buffet is a bit tasteless with very little choice. On one occasion at dinner, a chef was cooking a stir fry with prawns and calamari. We don’t like calamari so we asked for it to be left out. The chef said he couldn’t as the dish was already mixed and in the sauce, all she was doing was heating it in the wok. Not what you expect in a 5* hotel. Labelling of food could also be improved. On the same evening a dish was labelled as seafood sweet and sour. When we asked what what seafood was in the dish the only response we could obtain was “it’s seafood “ We ate where possible in the plantation restaurant where the choice on the all inclusive menus were limited the quality and service was exceptional. Drinks are expensive so do your research before making your decision as to B&B / half board or all inclusive. We on one occasion when having a drink around the pool, we were mistakenly given a bill to sign for two Mojitos which converted with charges to £28. The staff are friendly and welcoming but can be “over managed” and criticised when being too friendly with guests which we witnessed on a few occasions. The occupancy when we were there for some reason was 20% and at the end of our holiday 30% at best. As a result we received great attention from the staff who had the time to get to know us and us them. It is not clear what the identity of the hotel is. There are many posts stating that there is nothing for children yet only one pool is deep enough to swim with others being only 1.2 metres deep or less. All the pools being located in one place it only takes a family or two to make it not pleasant for adults who want peace and quiet either. There is a designated adult only area which was only pointed out to us half way through the holiday but this is next to the baby / kiddies pool which is a triumph of planning. There is the beach area but you cannot escape children there or the locals who also use their area because it is a public beach. In my personal opinion this hotel by design and location cries out to be a sophisticated adults only hotel but that will not happen. The good. Breakfast

A hotel offering understated luxury in a picture-postcard setting. Grounds pretty and well-maintained. Beaches exceptional - blue skies , blue green ocean and pink/yellow sand. Excellent room , spacious , clean and very comfortable. All staff friendly, efficient and did everything they could to provide us with excellent service with a smile. Too many to name individually. Highly recommended.
