My wife recently stayed at this hotel and were very disappointed to say the least. We entered the plush lobby and had a five-star welcome of sorts when we given a small glass of port which we appreciated. A young gentlemen helped us with our luggage and offered to give us advice on various amenities but then seemed to disappear for the rest of our stay. Having said that, despite having someone on the front desk it seems odd for a high-end hotel to not have a dedicated concierge at all times for guests to consult. However, things took a serious turn for the worst on our first morning. We entered the breakfast room and were greeted by two mute looking attendants who didn't even bother to smile or say good morning. When we told them that we had not paid for breakfast, we had to introduce them to the concept of charging it to our room. Breakfast was €30 per person which seemed quite expensive for the very average breakfast on offer. I ordered a cafe au lait which when it arrived was so lukewarm it actually bordered on cold. And then the coup de grace; an eggs benedict so utterly revolting and tasteless I'm still wondering how I didn't throw it up. This was food made by someone utterly indifferent and bordered on contempt. And then to add insult to injury the waiter was pushing the bill and pen in my face before we'd even finished eating. This coloured our view of this hotel for entire stay, and we never ate there again. However, on checking out, something astonishing happened; we settled our bill and waited for the crucial words from the young lady at the desk, 'How was your stay?'. And to our amazement we were never asked. We have stayed in hotels of all kinds, and it is the one phrase uttered again, even perfunctorily. But here, nothing. We decided to give this hotel a go after staying at the excellent ICON Duplo nearby. It is a hotel that prides itself on attention to detail and kindness and thoughtfulness of it's staff, and we thought that staying at a similar boutique hotel we would get a similar level of service. The Pestano Brasileria seems content to masquerade as a top tier hotel and charge while offering a distinctly 3-star service. We will not make the same mistake again.
