I absolutely love Puerto Pollensa. Having stayed at Pollensa Park and Spa six or seven times in the last 12 years, under Cabot and Fergus management, I was excited to be returning for another stay, especially as we'd splashed out and booked one of the newly-refurbished 'Superior Sea View Double Rooms'. Unfortunately, the excitement was short lived. Allocated a fourth-floor room right next to the lifts and stairwell (not a great start when you're a light sleeper), we opened the door to discover a room that seriously lacked any consideration to the requirements of a traveller on holiday – basically, space to put your stuff. Combine this with the quality of workmanship that could not have been any further away from the 'Superior' description if it had tried – large exposed holes in the bedroom and bathroom, burn holes in surfaces, and the worst paint job I've ever seen in a hotel, regardless of it's star rating. We immediately asked if we could change rooms, to one of the older rooms, forgoing the extra money we'd paid for the 'Superior' room, predominantly due to the noisy position, but were only offered a similar-style 'Superior' room overlooking the noisy street. The once reasonably-adequate storage space for clothes, had been replaced with an indoor 'cubby-hole' seating area, which I doubt anyone will ever use for that purpose. A new (wonky) clothes rail with a dozen hangers sat alongside a 4-shelf unit – not wide enough to fit a folded t-shirt on. No other storage space. No drawers. Not even any hooks. Really not sure where the team responsible for this refurbishment at Cabot Pollensa Park and Spa think two people are going to store 10 days/two weeks worth of clothes etc in their 'Superior' rooms? Even the safe has been moved from a handy, eye-level position in the older rooms, to a low-level unit, making it really difficult to see to use and also, I should imagine, not ideal for older people who'd struggle to bend down to use it. During our stay we had to ask twice to have the floors cleaned (there was stains on the floor from the previous occupants when we moved into the room), despite this being listed as a daily occurrence. Communal areas in the hotel weren't cleaned regularly and the areas around the large sunbeds had plastic cups, paper bags, pool floats laying around for days without being cleaned away. Cooked food at breakfast was luke-warm at best and on checking out, we weren't even asked if we'd enjoyed our stay. Jet2 pitch Pollensa Park and Spa as a 4-star hotel. Not anymore. Really not sure what has happened here? Our 10-night experience has left me saddened and confused (that a once-loved hotel has got something so fundamental to its existence so very wrong) and incredibly tired as I barely slept due to the lift noise, guests up and down the stairs all night, a really uncomfortable bed and being struck down with the resident sickness and diarrhea bug for 2 days. My love for Puerto Pollensa will live on, but no longer
