PLEASE DON’T HAVE YOUR EVENT HERE. I had my wedding on April 2024 at thotupala and they ruin the whole experience. Please read this if you are planning to have your wedding here. We had 300 guest and we informed the thotupala manager ( KUMARA ) to make sure everything will go smoothly . we handover the beers, liquor and champagne the day before so they can put it in the chiller. On the day of the wedding nothing was done. Everything was delayed. We had to serve the guest warm beer. and for 300 guests they only kept 100 Champagne flutes. More than Half of the people didn’t get the flute for the toast. And cutlery and water glasses were dirty. Before the event we asked whether they are giving water or else we can supply . They said yes and one of the guests caught them filling a 19L dispenser bottle with tap water. And the staff doesn’t know *** are they doing,They got people from outside for service and they stole one handbag and a few gifts from the tables. At the Bar, bits were kept in a Plastic bucket outside. We thought it was a garbage bin. Food, we had to go to the kitchen and coordinate and get the food out. Please don’t trust these people’s promises. My deco people and the band did an amazing job. And now they use my wedding footage to advertise Thotupala lake side. When I complain they blocked me from Instagram And the band complain that they didn’t have any electrician in their staff and the person who handled it fried their equipment. We had few people from outside of Colombo and the rooms they promised for them were not cleaned. bedsheet had stains and doors are unstable.no water . and there is mold growing everywhere. So, the guests left the same night because it’s not possible to stay. If you are planning your event, PLEASE DON’T RUIN YOUR BEAUTIFUL DAY

We are extremely disappointed that their lack of responsibility. We have book this place month before and paid advance for Aurudu event. But when we call them to discuss arrangements day before the event, they replied they can't arrange the place due to some repairs within the premises. They have not informed us at all about it until we called them. To compound the issue, when we tried to reach out to them to discuss the problem and request a refund, they were not responded to that. It is incredibly unprofessional and irresponsible for a business to disregard its customers in this manner. I strongly advise anyone considering Thotupala Lakeside for their events to think twice. The lack of professionalism and accountability displayed by this establishment is appalling. I, for one, will never recommend it for any event or function. It's being 6 days already it is utterly disrespectful still we did not receive the advance payment and they still ignoring our calls.

Do not go there! I repeat! Do not go there!! I once went there for a day out package. Even though the time was from 9am to 4pm, I went around 12pm hence I asked them whether they can extend time till 6pm and they were okay with it. However, when we go there, we noticed that the room was poorly maintained, and the bathroom had water leaks but that was not the main problem compared to our experience. The main area where the buffet was arranged was occupied by a group get together, so we were requested to sit at some other open area. The hotel manager said that they will serve the food to the place we were sitting but they didn’t. We had to go back and serve ourselves from buffet and come back to this area to sit. Also since this is an open area, when we went back to get the dessert, we saw craws eating from the plates we left there. I have photographs of this. Now comes the worst part. After returning to our room, I noticed that the bathroom has no water, so I informed the reception by a call. However, nobody attended even after 30 minutes. I called again and the reception said, he informed the maintenance. So, I asked him to check again with maintenance and give me feedback. He didn’t call back so I called again in another 10 minutes. He said he is not able to leave the reception desk and he will call the maintenance again. He still didn’t call me back, so I called again and ask for their manager’s number. The way they responded to a basic need of humans is frustrating. Then I called the manager and asked him about this in a slightly high tone as I wanted to show him my frustration. He came to our room and said that a pump is down so it is not possible to pump water to upper floors, and they can give us a ground floor room after 4.30pm when the other guests who have come for day out packages leave. Then I asked him to show me a common washroom which has water. This manager didn’t have the curtsey to give me a solution for my need until I ask for it. It is my worst experience with hotels so far in my entire life. I am just leaving my bad experience here. You decide whether your money is worth the bad service they give despite of the nice location.

The hotel is lake-front-situated, mostly glass-walled and has a serene atmosphere. The best part of my experiece was my interactions with the very kind staff. Starting from the charming managerJerry, all staff members aimed to please. I would say the place is more suited for a day event rather than staying overnight. The hotel caters to local crowds and an outsider might not find hotel amenities adequate for staying overnight. I was there to spend 3 nights, but one night I had to sleep elsewhere because of a very loud late night event. I had only breakfast at the hotel and opted for the local breakfast which was string hoppers with chicken curry, dahl and coconut sambol. It was tasty. All in all, I am glad I tried the place out I enjoyed at least 2 peaceful evenings, one with a firey sunset greeting me.
