My husband and I enjoyed a wonderful stay at Hotel Alexandra. The location is lovely with beautiful fjord views and the property is attractive. We didn’t stay long enough to take advantage of all the amenities, but we were very pleased with the balcony and view from our room. The room was comfortable and appealing with adequate space, though the bathroom could be improved a bit. Lighting was not bright enough for shaving or applying makeup and the shower felt cramped. The hair dryer was wasn’t very good but did the job. We opted for the five course dinner at Andrine rather than the buffet and that, especially because of the wonderful team, was the highlight of our stay and the reason for our highest rating. Annette, the hostess, was warm and inviting, starting our evening off well. There were large somewhat noisy tour groups having the buffet, so we especially appreciated the tranquility and romance of Andrine’s elegant and serene dining room. We had a perfect table with a view. Our server, Tomasz, was outstanding, professional and efficient, yet engaging and personable. We felt very well cared for throughout the meal. The food was as excellent as the service, creative, fresh and wholly delicious. I try not to fill up on bread, but the bread roll was perfect, crusty and light. For a five course, where you have some choices, we expected smaller servings, but they were surprisingly generous. Tomasz recommended some very good wine by the glass which paired well with the food. We thought that the price was very reasonable given the quality and quantity. After such a terrific dinner we had high expectations for the breakfast buffet. There was plenty of choice but we felt that the quality lagged, for example dry and lukewarm scrambled eggs and mediocre coffee. Despite this we would still recommend the hotel.
