In a beautiful setting with lovely spacious rooms. High level of cleanliness and a great shower. Love the old windows with their shutters. Nice touch of homemade shortbread and a cute stag wine stopper to take home. Plusses: - huge comfy bed - decent pillow choice! - lots of space - great views (Whitney Neil room) - really very very clean! - great location Be Aware: - steep staircase access, not for those with mobility concerns - bathroom ‘waterworks’ are pretty noisy - road is noisy from around 6am Didn’t rate the brekky. Not a busy service but it wasn’t piping hot food. The toast and butter were served on the same plate as the food and made soggy by tinned tomatoes. Poor quality thin bread (see pics) toast not really toasted. Could also do with more than just one hot drink too. One went back barely touched, chef didn’t query - find that very unusual. Shame really as the meal the previous evening was wonderful and had us excited for a cracking start to the day.

We've just returned from another fabulous 3 nights here. As always we were made to feel very welcome by all the staff we met. All the staff are fabulous and the new team members we met, on this occasion, were as friendly and helpful as the longer serving staff. Our room was, again, very comfortable, well furnished and spotlessly clean (thank you to housekeepers Lillie and Dee). The rooms are well equipped with mini fridge (containing fresh milk), tea and coffee (including coffee machine), robes & slippers and all the toiletries (and more) you might expect in a top class establishment. The breakfasts are first class and we also always have dinner here - it's such a treat. We visit on a regular basis and are never disappointed.

Have just spent a lovely couple of nights at this beautiful hotel in the loveliest little village.The most beautifully decorated establishment that is immaculately clean with the friendliest staff providing a first class service, everything about this hotel is so tasteful with the utmost attention to detail and superb food. Another great evening and dining experience as part of the monthly Around the World specials. This month was a visit to Portugal, and given the Head Chef's Portuguese heritage, we expected something special. It was fabulous with tastes & flavours we have not experienced before and certainly did not disappoint. Aside from the quality food always served here, what makes The Devonshire extra special is the warm, welcoming atmosphere and a team that really care about customers and service.

Recommend the Devonshire 100%. We have stayed here multiple times over the last few years and, having stayed in a lot of places across the UK, I can honestly state that this is the best in every way. The whole place is kept spotlessly clean both inside and out. The rooms are well appointed and the beds are supremely comfortable. The breakfast is the best anywhere and even those needing to eat gluten free can have the full English. What a result! I am posting a separate review of the restaurant but, in case you're wondering, the food is fabulous. Supremely comfortable and spotlessly clean accommodation, fabulous food and add to that the nicest staff team I've ever met anywhere - this makes the Devonshire a winner in every way.
