Old Town Hotel

Although Old Town Hotel is far from perfect, I was overall satisfied with my stay and would return. First, the positives. Absolutely, the location!!!! The location of the hotel could not be better, within the old town, steps away from the fort and on the vibrant main square. The souk is a 2 minute walk away. Free parking is also a 2 minute walk and there is space for about 20 cars, so is not an issue. The staff is lovely, both at the reception and the breakfast people upstairs. The roof top terrace has a wonderful view and is a perfect place to enjoy breakfast. Although I was lucky enough to get a shady spot on each of the two mornings of my stay, additional umbrellas would be good (so long as they don't block the view!). Breakfast itself was very good and had some different selections on each day. I particularly enjoyed the mango, hummus and other Arabic mezze. The room itself was a good size and the bed comfortable. Now for the less good: the bathroom. I don't think it is unique to this hotel to have a tiny bathroom with a shower that wets everything within its aim, but once we figured that out and moved towels etc out of the bathroom we enjoyed the copious hot water. Also, although we stayed two nights our room was not cleaned (although water replenished when we asked). I don't know if this was an oversight or hotel policy, but by the time we arrived back at the hotel after a day's sightseeing we didn't bother to ask for a clean up. It was fine and we lived with it, but usually I expect the room to be tidied etc.automatically. But despite these glitches I was pleased with my stay and would stay at Old Town again.

The hotel seemed okay, but it turned out that they are scammers. We paid for the night, the terminal was broken and the transaction did not go through, we tried second time. It turned out that both transactions went through and we were charged twice. We reported it right away to the hotel. The hotel assured us that this one payment was only a blockade and this money would release. They did not release. Then they said that the Bank will automatically return the money at the end of the month after settlement. It did not. And the hotel stopped writing back and blocked us.

We just needed a clean place to sleep as we drove from Qatar so that the next day we can start seeing all the amazing Wadi’s, waterfalls, Caves and winding roads of the Jabal Shams and Jebal Adhkar mountains. The hotel is in a great central location opposite the fort and their Souq. With free parking and winding alleys of restaurants and coffee shops. Seems like a newly renovated interior so great clean finish. Did the job.

Centrally located few steps from the Nizwa fort. Easy parking either in front of the fort, or by the area of the hotel. Modern building, room OK. Nice service at checkin and checkout. Breakfast served at the Al Bustan Hotel - nearby top place - which is ok: free shuttle cab to the place (5-10' ride). Shower w/o curtain, so you will wash the whole bathroom, but this is typical in Arabia. Ask for additional towels, no problem. Nearby, a lot of restaurants, coffee shops, terraces. Recommended for your 2-3 nights in Nizwa.

Hotel centrale da cui a piedi poter visitare sia il forte di Nizwa sia il suo souq. Personale gentilissimo e onestissimo che non solo ha risposto immediatamente alle nostre richieste ma che ha dimostrato grande correttezza e professionalità. Ottima la colazione. Parcheggio dedicato.

Posizione eccellente, a pochi passi dal suq e dalla fortezza di Nizwa. Il personale è molto gentile e disponibile. Le camere sono pulite, spaziose e confortevoli. Unico neo: il frigo in camera non funzionava e non è stato possibile sostituirlo durante il soggiorno. La colazione è nella media. Nel complesso, consigliato!
