The hotel was very very basic, but the worst of all was the travel agent who had his desk in the lobby. The name of the agency was "Staybook Travel". I bought from him a one week tour in Kerala. He told me I should pay the actual costs for flight tickets, hotel nights, driver etc plus 20 % for his work. I found this a reasonable deal and I assumed this was an honest business as he was allowed to have his agency in the hotel lobby. So I paid him 160 000 Rupies for this one week tour. After the tour I checked the prices on the Internet and I then realized that I had been overcharged with at least 50 000 Rupies. I asked him to give me a specifikation of the actual costs but I never received any. So my advice is that you should avoid this travel agency !

I am from New Zealand and stayed there. Its my best experience of staying in any hotel so far in my lifetime. Best staff and the hospitality is so great. The interior and the artitect is so amazing gives a real India experience and flavour. I am staying and recommend everyone to stay here and get the best value of money and real Indian Experience.

a superb location in delhi. no noise, No cars noise in a peacefull street very clean. But you are nnear a bazar street, a metro station.a lot of restaurant, an ashram ! ask for the suites .no necessity to take street view. choose your room . all are different with a raisonable price. very good service and help. All room with old furniture like "heritage". you. To make any indian purchase you go in the bazar street in one minute. great ! ! ! ! .

Located just off Main Bazar, behind the Imperial Cinema (tell that to the tuktuk drivers) in crazy Pahar Ganj (older part of Delhi) lies this beautiful Haveli style guest house. I was referred to them sometime last year by a fellow French business traveler. Since, I think I have stayed three times. The rooms a clean, spacious and neat. Ask for a room on the backside, cool and quiet. The rooftop restaurant is beautiful - great boutique/Indian style - with funny wait staff and many cats (that behave). Try ordering off the western menu, very good. I usually only go Indian when in India, but, they suggested a few dishes off the western menu, and I was hooked. Everyone from the cleaning staff to the front desk are super helpful and trustworthy. Give them a try. You'll be glad you did...

Situated in Paharganj near N Delhi railway station, heaven for back packers. This hotel is best amongst 5 other hotels I have stayed in this area and is a gem, an heritage hotel. The ambience is of a heritage palace, the hotel is clean, hygienic with friendly and helpful staff. The Rooms were stylish with AC, fridge and LCD TV, mineral water was provided and best of all with free wifi. There is no lift in the hotel as is a heritage hotel. The breakfast is served on a roof top small restaurant with basic variety made to order, European or Indian. You don't feel like you are in Hustle bustle of Paharganj on the roof top restaurant, very peaceful with lots of plants and heritage like furniture

Steeped in the heart of Pahar Ganj a once little gem needing much renovation. Such a shame as there are so many traditional artefacts around the building. Having visited this hotel on many occasions I feel the standards have slipped somewhat. No hot water in room and now only serve a simple breakfast as roof top cooking has been banned due to a fire elsewhere in Pahar Ganj. Warning as an experienced traveller to India, Pahar Ganj can be very assaulting on your senses in many ways, noise, smells,colours but this is India. Also beware of tuk tuk scams from the Metro, they may take you to tourist office and ask for more rupees so agree your price before travelling with them. Pictures are of Paharganj market area

Jyoti Mahal is not a place I would go back to. We wanted a place near everything in Delhi, but this place is actually in the new city, which is probably 30 min from Chandi Chowk and other popular areas. Also, the hotel is in a neighborhood which is quite chaotic. If you want to get a real feel for Delhi, then maybe you’ll like this, but be warned this’s also means huge piles of trash, dirty baby diapers underneath your feet and not a working ATM for miles. Also the hotel staff is very apathetic and don’t really want to be bothered with helping you. The rooms were so-so from a cleanliness standpoint, not too bad except for stains on the sheets - no rats or anything, which is an accomplishment in this area of Delhi. All-in-all, I would stay somewhere else on my next trip.
