this place is a fabulous destination as well as a superb hotel. Literally a palace, smaller room doubles can be had for £30, suites for £75 and regal apartments for £200. Huge rooms, high ceilings, quirky bathrooms, antique furniture, good fridges, deep balconies most with great views surrounded by enormous gardens and a huge swimming pool. There are pool changing rooms & pool towels. very comfortable and regal. Buffet breakfast excellent in one of the state rooms, dinners also good and the bar is inexpensive in a palatial room with balcony & snooker table. a 1920s lift takes you upstairs where there are extensive balconies. Room service v good. Its 25min walk into town but there is transport easily available for RS80. This is one of the nicest places I have stayed at in India; Stayed for a week & after visiting Sriranngapatna, Shravanabelgola, Halebid & Koorg, I went back for another week; it was such a treat. If you are near in the south, detour to ensure you take the opportunity to stay in a palace for a fraction of the cost of other Indian palaces ! Splash out on the heritage rooms at the front of the main building.

We stayed at Lalitha Mahal Palace hoping for a regal escape, but sadly, it felt more like walking through the faded pages of a once-grand story. The heritage charm is undeniable, but the place is in desperate need of revival. The food was underwhelming, amenities were bare minimum, and the overall experience just didn’t live up to the promise. Yes, you get to sleep in a piece of history — but the question is, at what cost? Wouldn’t go back.
