Modern Stay 39 Lakeview by OYO Minonk Garden

The non-smoking room smelled like somebody had just finished a carton of cigarettes. I slept with the window open all night.

I know this was a budget hotel and you get what you pay for but there was hair on sink tops and in tub. Beds were poor with very poor pillows and sheets. This was the middle of December and the only thing on the beds were crappy sheets and thin coverlet. When I asked about extra blankets, the manager was accomodating, but all they had were what looked like twin sized mattress pads that looked like felt packing blankets. Will not stay there again. This hotel is not modern at all.

Very kind owner, willing to listen to feedback for improvements. really like the triangular shower tub and bathroom design, gives more elbow room, BUT the door needs to be changed. When bathroom door is swung in, it blocks access to over half of the tub. I suggest a folding closet door type , or a door that disappears into the wall. Also the refigerator had no control. It did freeze bottles in the freezer compartment , which is good. BUTI it froze other things on the shelves. Microwave needs an upgrade. one stairwell was too hot. Elevator was broken. Only given one set of towels, and they were not refreshed for my 2nd day. nice and quiet, felt safe. No breakfast, but did have coffee. reasonable price, and so easy to find by I-39

Staff made it extremely hard to get it and weren't the easiest to explain our situation to. ******* was trying to clarify and verify our reservations with them but **coincidentally** front staff would walk away from the phone and only coming back when it stopped ringing.... Thankfully, we were able to have ******* representative on our phone who was willing to put their foot down about our reservations and got us in. So beware of that if you're using *******.. may run into hiccups.. Hopefully they discontinue service with each other because it was a difficult hassle especially while we were so tired from long rides and wanted to simply lay down. It was only for one night.. Eventually got in though. Beautiful view, alot of dead bugs but thankfully yes, dead lol. AND that was to be expected because it's very close to water. but probably won't be back due to the situation being so difficult to navigate through.. Overall very basic and simple room. No AC, they had a fan in the room for you to use, but it was a very powerful fan!!! Made the room cold at night lol, I'm sure if you're booking through OYO it'll be no problem at all though with the check in process! Cool for a short stay!

Stained bedspreads, dirty washcloth by sink, used bar of soap in bathtub, a black something on counter, only given 2 small leftover rolls of toilet paper, at 8:30 requested via front desk phone (no one around) for another roll. Delivered at 10:50. Room not ready for check-in when we arrived at 4 to come back in half hour. Girl at desk alone so had to kinda clean room, no ice in machine. Floors sticky. I could go on. We’re seniors and worst hotel experience ever!

Only because of Helen, and she would be rated a five! She went above and beyond her duty, same goes for the gentleman whose name escapes me, but he is studying to become an arborist and his father is a veteran. Both the air conditioning and the elevator in the lobby were inoperable .Old hotel that seriously needs sprucing up: repairing & repainting rooms, updating linens (which were stained) . Returned later and had great customer service but the elevator and a/c in the lobby still had not been repaired - six weeks later ! I will stay there again in October, but only because of Helen & team.
