We arrived at the hotel in the late evening of 31st May. There was only one staff member at the counter, and she insisted on taking photos of our passports as well as individual photos of our faces, stating that it was the hotel’s policy.
We have travelled extensively across various cities in China, both big and small, and this is the only hotel that has required such procedures, which we feel *seriously infringe on our privacy*. This made us very uncomfortable, and we are genuinely concerned about how our personal data might be used or stored.
We were only staying for a few hours before leaving at dawn to catch an early flight the next morning.
