The White Hart - A Heartwood Inn

It's with regret that my recent stay at this lovely old hotel was unpleasant, more a case of great design leads to impracticality....Considering the room cost per night, expected more. This hotel is not suitable for summer stays when the English weather is hot! No air-conditioning at all throughout the building (unbelievable), the rooms are stifling hot with only a small fan to create a breeze which in fact only circulates the already present hot air within. Even sleeping on top of the bed made no difference, the worst nights sleep in years. Be aware that the character uneven steep old stairs caused elderly people shortage of breath, some found the heavy landing doors hard to open, if your on the 3rd floor be prepared ......(No Lift) The positives are the great space downstairs (breeze if any via open doors and windows), dining area looks fantastic, great food, and finally lovely staff who are very polite and helpful. If you attending for something to eat or drink, recommended. If your looking to stay for a night or two, be selective on the season you choose ! Premier Inn Lewes recommended for summer stays.

We ate out on the terrace - it was fantastic. Great food, lovely service, a fun atmosphere and really special views over the white cliffs of the Downs.

We chose the White Hart for drinks and lunch after getting married at Lewes registry office. After reading past mixed reviews we were a little apprehensive about booking, but after a very pleasant dining experience we were glad we made the decision to book. The restaurant has great views looking out over Lewes and the downs, the bifold doors out to the terrace made is perfect for outdoor drinks and kept us all cool on a lovely hot day. The food was of a good standard, and reasonably priced. The restaurant was fairly busy but didn’t have to wait long to be served, the staff were friendly and attentive, making us feel very welcome. We couldn’t have asked for more from our visit today.

We celebrated our wedding anniversary last evening and we had a wonderful time. When we arrived they sat us near a wedding reception on the conservatory near the verandah but we asked to be moved, and they did with no fuss. We had mains and a dessert, the lamb shank and the gressingham duck, both dishes were wonderful. We then had the delice and the rhubarb crumble, again both were superb. Thanks go to Malia who looked after us beautifully. Highly recommended.

An enjoyable experience in a very pleasant room with very responsive staff. Food was tasty and we are looking forward to trying the terrace for lunch on a warm day

Booked lunch for my mums 70th which consisted of 6 adults and 4 children plus a puppy! We had an amazing lunch and the staff were very attentive and kind especially Tillian. Food was delicious and service impeccable. The cheese souffle and pistachio soufflé were some of the best I have had. Thank you for making it a special day for my mum.
