Palapas del Sol

Lovely hotel and beach front access with friendly restaurant staff but a few very important points to note before booking given it’s not cheap! 1) the reception staff are miserable and unwelcoming, 2) the food and drink are average not brilliant and the restaurant was dead every night (likely because of that!) breakfast options are very limited and not great, 3) no proper pool - there is a tiny pond pool but disappointing as tiny and can’t sit around it, 4) tiny wardrobe and no chest of drawers so couldn’t hang many clothes, 5) cockroaches and insects came into bedroom and bathroom, 6) smell of sewage / toilets on the beach occasionally is really unpleasant.

This bright and happy hotel felt like home for us all for our week-long yoga retreat. We felt cared for, safe and protected and delighted by the consistent smiles of all of the hard-working staff. Each room is unique, decorated in refreshing and accomodating ways, and kept quite clean as well. The beaches and the hotel's beach areas are swept clear of seaweed and maintained well and the beach bar was inviting and lots of fun! The meals were fresh, delicious and served with pride and efficiency. Even those in the group with food sentsitivities were quite pleased by the selections! Management was a delight and consistently on top of any question or concern with genuine care. And the yoga studio space was sublime and also kept tidy buy thoughtful staff. We'll return again and again!

Good food, great staff, very enjoyable experience. I appreciated the cleanliness of the hotel. The views from the top floors are very nice. I am a birder, and got to see some in the mangrove swamp behind the hotel. We took an island tour, which was very fun and informative.

Beautiful location and hospitality. Very clean. One of nicest hotels on Holbox right on the beach. Their tallest palapa sticks up above everything else so we could always find it. Our “superior suite with sea view” was not large but it was beautiful, and we enjoyed the small deck. The restaurant offers good food. Everything is done through WhatsApp, including ordering food or anything else you need. The staff was very helpful. You can walk to the town in about 20 min in one direction, and when the tide is out you can wade out to the sand bar and walk in the other direction all the way to Mosquito Beach.

Lovely hotel with great staff, NInfa and ELoyse, good service. Rooms are very nice. Book the room 1 floor because the others downstairs you don't have much privacy since all guests going to the beach are passing your balcony. The breakfast is á lá Carter, I do prefer a buffet, but it's very complete, and if you ask a bit more, they will get it for you.the beach is beautiful and so is the sand. Clear waters with fish and no waves, loved it. The only problem is if a "storm" passes by coming from the north. Sargaço will evade your beach, and the smell is awful 😖. Also, the other hotels clean the beach better than palapas. It's a protected island, so you can't take the sargaço of the line of water, but you can take it on the qsand. Palapas did not do it. They staff just took a bit for you too put the chairs and it was bad. All other hotels took the sargaço near the line of the water so we just went to spend the days at other places and not at palapas because of the huge quantity of sargaço at that beach and the smell is sooo horrible. You can also go to punta Coco. That beach won't have sargaço. I would return to palapas, loved the spot just 15m walk to the center. I dont like the beach near the center, small and crowded. The palapas is small but perfect for relaxing and for a great service. Also, everything is cleaned perfectly. Just cross fingers for no sargaço. Next year, I'm going to return to holbox, I do like the vibe. Thank you, Ninfa and Eloise!

A very relaxed hotel to stay. Breakfast at our balcony is very relaxed. Every day different kind of fruit, coffee (also available in the room), juice and your choice of eggs, pancakes, etc. Personnel is very friendly and helpful. Palapas at the beach are very good, ample shade for both beds. In the garden also a lot of deck chairs. Best location on the beach, although not in the village itself. That is a 15 minute stroll, and in the evening very dark..... We recommend a room upstairs with beach view. The ground floor rooms do not have much privacy on the balcony, and the rooms at the backside are a bit dark. The restaurant menu is okay. We went to the neighbors (las Hamacas) several times and this was really good. Maybe Palapas del Sol could tie up with them to offer halfboard? A restaurant at the side of the beach is very nice. We do not recommend the restaurant at the other neighbor (Kuka), terrible. Worst dinner in a long time. had to chew on my tuna.....and the very loud music, that is maybe the only complaint we have. Sometimes we could not sit on our own balcony because of the loud music of Kuka. (and being used to dance events we are not complainers). If Palapas del Sol could work something out with Kuka (maybe transferring the loudspeakers further away from the hotel), that would definitely influence the rating.
