호텔 스컬홀트(Hótel Skálholt)

Good hotel in quiet and famous location. Very good restaurant, beware set menu only, but it is very good. Surprisingly it was folly booked on the day of our arrival as local bike club had an event there. Next day it was half empty. Rooms are clean and very quiet. Good shower. Plenty of free parking Good breakfast. Helpful and friendly staff. Reception of the hotel is the bar at the restaurant.

The hotel is very remote, but quite comfortable. It has a meandering floor plan with a couple cozy common rooms. No TV in the bedroom, but there was one in the common room that got a few channels. We felt like we had the hotel to ourselves, because for the most part we did. Because the hotel is so remote, we had dinner at the hotel restaurant. The ambience there was wonderful, but dinner was pricey!

We had a lovely time at Hotel Skalholt. We enjoyed our room and the amenities provided. The property is gorgeous, we were even able to see some of the northern lights. The building of the hotel is older and the decor and furnishings are dated as such, which was also true for the bathroom in our room.

Stayed here with the extended family. In the room with wife and 7 year old. Room was a tad small but overall comfortable. Bathroom was quite basic. Room had curtains and blinds to block out the light (especially during the midnight sun) Place is a bit far from the towns (around 30 mins drive) so if you are hungry late night good luck! Breakfast was alright although choices were quite limited. Free parking. Building is quite interesting, repurposed from the bishop's residence :) Hotel Room: 4 Stars (Comfortable beds and the room was dark enough) Room View: 3 Stars (View of the church) Service of Staff: 4 Stars (Quick check in) Lounges/Restaurants: 4 Stars (Average breakfast, limited spread) Room Service: NA Location: 4 Stars (Location is a bit far from the towns but if you are in the area then its the best there is!)

Hótel Skálholt is a gem on the Golden Circle. The location is perfect for a Golden Circle tour, only a short drive from the major attractions such as Geysir hotspring, Gullfoss waterfall and Thingvellir Nationa park. The hotel is set in a retro style building right next to a beautiful Cathedral, which is worth visiting. The restaurant is amazing with creative and delicious dishes. The service is friendly and personal.

It was fantastic stay. Very functional. Really enjoyed stay.

Hotel does not really match reviews, rooms are a bit dirty and almost smelly (particularly the curtains), also older than in picture. Breakfast absolutely not worth the price and in a cramped space - no yogurt / skyr available in Iceland!

We booked one of the cottages but were upgraded to the larger house when we got there, which was a nice surprise. The house was spacious and clean with a well-equipped kitchen, but no soap or shampoo was provided in the bathrooms. This was the only place in Iceland we stayed in that didn’t offer that. The weather was terribly windy so we didn’t use the hot tub or spend a lot of time exploring the historic grounds but they looked very interesting.

The staff was super friendly, centrally located for the golden circle, clean simple rooms, shower with great water pressure, and the dinner we had there was fantastic (but it's only on weekends during the off season). Perfect for our trip going to places around the golden circle area.
