The Retreat at Groenfontein

My husband and I spent a night at The Retreat and what a wonderful experience it was yet again. The room was welcoming and clean and the dinner and breakfast at the guesthouse was fabulous. The food, the conversation and sharing with the other guests always makes an interesting event. Marie and Erica made us feel like family. The walks are varied and I walked to the pools and had a great swim in the chilly mountain water whilst my husband had an amazing mountain bike ride. This is always a formula for a great time. We will definitely be back.

Our stay at The Retreat at Groenfontein was truly an oasis. The rooms were beautiful and the beds incredibly comfortable, making for a restful stay. The entire property is lush and green, providing a serene atmosphere that's perfect for unwinding. We only wish there had been more time to explore the lovely trails. The food and wine were absolutely delicious, and we had a great time chatting with Marie. The dam provided a lovely spot for a swim, and the friendly dogs were an added bonus. Highly recommend for anyone seeking a peaceful and nature-filled retreat!

One of the highlights of our stay was the superb food; each meal was thoughtfully prepared and absolutely delicious. Evenings were especially memorable, as all guests gather around the dinner table with the hosts, sharing stories and laughter over hearty, home-cooked dishes. It’s a wonderfully personal touch that makes you feel part of something unique. The natural beauty surrounding the Retreat is simply breathtaking; Swartberg at its very best. Highly recommended for anyone seeking peace, charm and authentic country hospitality.

The Retreat is a unique experience in a tucked away place with beautiful trees. The hosts are exceptional and the dining experience unique sitting at a long table together makes for awesome interaction between guests creating fun laughter and new friends a different experience indeed. The full board was great as we could relax and rejuvenate with interesting walks and lounging around the pool. If you want solitude and reconnect with nature , yourself indulge in me time this is the place for you.

Hidden away in the spectacular mountain scenery North of Calitzdorp lies this very special venue. Marie and her team offer a superb retreat with spacious accommodation set in the delightful gardens surrounded by mountain vistas, peace and birdsong. We very much enjoyed the entertaining evening dinners meeting the other guests and sharing experiences, Marie and Erica hosted the evenings brilliantly and were a mine of local information and history. What a treat the Retreat at Groenfontein is! Magical surrounding accompanied by the friendliest of welcomes from Marie and her team, and great chats with the other explorers over dinner on the stoop. The walking trails take you through the magical, countryside, and in our case, to the chilly mountain rock pools. We will definitely be back for a longer visit - one day was just not enough.
